why can't you make my channels work?

I called them the other night because I got all of my channels except CBS. I didn't even show up on the channel menu. While trying to fix that I asked them if I could go ahead and switch my local channels from Dallas locals to OKC. As soon as they did the switch I wasnt able to get any of the channels from the 110 satellite. I went out and repointed my dish and both satellites showed up over 90 strength and still nothing.

Last night I talked them into switching me back to Dallas locals and I now get all of my channels but the OKC local stations show up on the channel list although I can't watch them.

Has anyone had anything like that happen to them?

Dish Network sucks, thoroughly. incredibly too complicated to reset, fix, call and do a problem check, etc.. my folks had it and it was a pain in the arse.

Direct TV my friend. Direct TV.

have you tried to power down the receiver completely? and let it sit over-night powered down. Many times when this is done, the receiver will dload the latest software, and channel selection for the smart card.

might be worth trying.

actually I thought it just took 15 seconds. push the power button and hold it for 15. then reset. even try unplugging it.

Now see. You've done ****ed me off now. Dish Network SUCKS. And they're THIEVES too.

I refused to sign a contract and I'm glad I did. I paid for the install in order to avoid the contract. They told me I'd get ABC. But when it came time to get it (I had to wait 45 days) they then told me that I could NOT get it. That same week they sent out a promotion to our area telling everyone that ABC was available.
They also told me I would get ALL the Fox Sports channels, not just the one in my area (on the 180 package) Lie. I ended up paying full price after they told me that I'd get half price for them being dishonest on the channels being included.

The service was down more than it was up.

I will never use Dish Network again. It is the most corrupt company I've ever done business with. (Well... except for the merchant account I bought)

They suck.

Actually it doesn't matter. The service sucks no matter how many times you reboot it or how long you wait. :)

that will only reset the receiver.

but leaving it off overnight, will allow for more dloads and such for some strange reason. (something that the receiver doesn't do when powered on.

I don't know if that would work in my case. My receiver isn't connected to a phone line. They charge me $5/mo because it's not connected to a phone line. grrrrrr.

especially if you receiver is not connected to a phone line

(btw, mine are not connected to a phone line either)

i have a receiver that is in my RV, and if i haven't used it in a while, if i don't bring it in the house and hook it up, sometimes i have the same problem you have with not getting all the subscribed channels. if i hook it up, and leave it powered down over night, this seems to solve the problem)

don't know if it will help you, but might be worth a try

I'd prefer cable over them all.

But I have dish, more HD.

The HD-DVR went out last week, and they replaced it this week, no problems.

This is a new receiver. The last one died due to bumps on the highway I guess. I'll try that tonight.

I told Dish's operator that their procedure was way too difficult and she said I just wasn't used to it, to which I replied that I've had Direct TV since 1996 and it's never been as difficult to maintain. she had no reply.

DirecTV was the bomb. I must get a 2nd opinion on getting them installed in the new home. I know it can be done and I think that the installer that did come out was on meth and was in a hurry to leave to get a fix.

I've had Dish Network for 10 years. I've been generally happy with it. Some of their policies stink but I just avoid them when possible.

I tried to set up an install with Dish Netork a few weeks ago to get out from under the Cox fiasco. Since I wanted two HD receivers, I could not set it up online but had to call the 800 number to do so. I paid my $49.99 install fee and they took my order and my money. A week later, they came out to install my new service but had me down as ordering only only one HD receiver and claimed that I'd have to pay an additional $549 for the 2nd HD receiver even though they admit it was a mistake on there part.

After the install guy called his home office, they offered no solution and I said bye-bye to Dish Network.

Honestly, I don't know if it was an honest mistake by Skandaar (the Dish rep on the phone who took my order) or a bait and switch that they try to pull on customers.

From what I've heard by others, probably the latter.

Just ditch dish/cable, etc. altogether and stick with porn all the time.

They are going to give me an HD receiver for my house for 149.95 and then 20/mo for HD programming and 5/mo for an extra receiver.

I hate those Dish people. Back in 1999, or was it 2000?...Dish told us that we would be able to get all the OU football games but when the first four games of the season were not available, we canceled the service the second month we had it. They charged my credit card $380.00 for a disconnect fee and left all their wires and dish stuff hooked to my house. I had to pay the handyman to climb up there and pull it all out. If they knock on my door again, I'm going to sic Bennie on them!

by default the receivers are set to attempt a download at 3am every night. If it is on at that time (or unplugged in your situation it sounds) the receiver will not get the new information they are sending down. You can go into the settings (not sure of the exact steps as I am at work right now ) and change this time to whatever is good for you. I recently got a second HD receiver for the bedroom and had to do a couple downloads before the HD channels would come in correctly. It is done via satellite so the phone line thing is not necessary. Usually these downloads will fix most of the problems, but not always...

ummm... no. That's what they TOLD you they were going to do. ;)

-- Which means nothing coming from Dish. They are liars of the first order. It is the most corrupt company I've ever had to deal with.

I had a 2nd appointment with Dish Network on Saturday between the hours of noon-5pm. The guy calls at 4:46pm to let me know he's on his way from SW OKC (I live in far NW OKC). After he arrives ten minutes late (I have waited around five hours already on a Saturday) he then informs me of my equipment request. They once again screwed my order up on HD receivers. So, the guy calls his boss with my phone, helps himself to set on my couch (w/o permission or even asking) and tells me that they have taken care of the situation. The guy then starts the installation process. He asks where my cable box is and asks if I have Cox internet. I tell him yes, then he makes a big deal out of having to "drop" another line down to the box with all of the cable connections.

Finally, I tell him to forget it and to get the hell out of my house!

DirecTV is supposed to be here today and if they can't/won't do it after forking out almost $400... then I'm stuck with Cox!

Whoever stated that DishNetwork is a terrible company is dead on. They're one of the worst I have ever dealt with and it's probably a blessing in disguise that they didn't actually do the installation. Even if I lose my $49.99 it would be better than being with a company who seems to thrive on doing things half-a$$.

Consumer beware.

I've had Directv for eleven years and NEVER had any problems. When I
moved a couple of years ago, they came and installed the service in
three rooms, no charge. All I had to do was buy one new receiver and
I got two free. IMO you can't go wrong with directv.

I have Cox Cable. No Porn. No recorded episodes of Dora. I think 1tc should go outside and take a walk, or get a hobby like making claymation movies involving an armadillo named Ziggy or something. And I don't think Pat has read a book not called Playboy in the better part of a decade.

Sometimes it's not the main company's fault that their installers are morons. I've been a customer of DirecTV for just over 10 years (we had DISH for 2 or so) and I've installed my own equipment when we moved and had it installed. Luckily there weren't any major issues either time.

Most of the time, it's not actually dish doing the install, it's a 3rd party (who you also setup your order through)

direct is the same way...
