Big ones I remember attending in this vein:

15-15 vs. Pokes 1992 in Stillwater
0-12 vs. Pokes 1995 in Norman

The first two instances of Poke Football Smack I witnessed in my lifetime.

I actually was on the field at halftime of this game, we were being presented (the new class of national merits). I was drunk off my *** :D

Wow! Funny you should mention that game. The same year me and my dad sat through rain to watch a loss to USC 20-10. What i remember most was Cale Gundy getting tossed to the sideline with a concussion and Kenyon Rasheed's big *** feet. I guess you could say that no...i'm not a bandwagon fan. I've seen good then bad then good again. Not once did i hide my OU flag in the years that followed...courtesy of pops btw!

Hell...come to think of it, wasn't the OSU game that year (1993) in Norman and rainy also? I remember some redneck up in the north endzone singing some weird chant in his little poncho. He was the only OSU fan in the house it seemed. Everyone looked at him like, "Ooohh...he's an aggot, poor fella". Glad the tradition still lingers on for those folks!

Can't remember what year it was off hand, but I accepted an invitation to the game at Lawrence with some friends that are die-hard KU fans and had season tickets there. I'm the lone OU fan to be seen in the section right behind the KU bench, and Eric Vann runs a 99 yard draw play and KU goes on to defeat us.
The humiliation heaped upon me was ruthless, but no blood was spilled. Then I was forced to listen to the after game hoopla and interviews (their version, not ours), as well as endure a 3 hour tortuous ride home.
Had my crimson on the whole time though, defiantly gave them the bird as they exited my driveway, and BOOMER SOONER echoed through the neighborhood as they ran for cover! ;)
And to show there are no hard feelings, I call them every year after we beat them, just to..........well, you know.............RUB IT IN! :)

I was at Cal in Berkeley and at the San Diego game in 1996, when De'Mond ran for about a million yards but we still got 50 hung on our arses.

Unless you have a degree from OU, you are not a true fan. You're a bandwagon fan. And we'd rather have 20 real fans that support us through thick and thin than 85,000 plus bandwagon fans.

I remember sitting in the stands of the '98 OU/TX game thinking that staying to the end would be a good point of reference to think about if we ever rose out of the Blake dump. Needless to say we did.

On the road at Nebraska (L 7-69) in '97 when my buddy and I absolutely knew we were going to get slaughtered in "Dr. Tom's" next-to-last home and final Oklahoma game.

After attending smatterings of games both at home and on the road (including the 10-20 home loss to Southern Cal under Gibbs, the Stoney Clark Texas game, and the Smellsofburbon asterisk game against CU) in the 90's, I finally signed up for season tickets at the tail end of '98 when they were easy to get. Because I knew at that point there was nowhere to go but up.

Good investment to say the least.

I'm not a Sooner grad, but I've been a Sooner fan since I can remember. And of course, the older I got, the more I was able to keep up w/the Sooners, and the more I became a fan. When my brother (OKC-SLC) started college and went through med school at OU, that's the first games I recall attending in Norman back in the Blake/Smellmybooger eras. I don't remember the exact games I went to back then, I just remember A LOT of QB rotations, haha.
On my wedding day back in '03 all of us guys scrounged up a t.v. from one of the church classes and piled up in a room of the church to watch us kick the crap out of the sheephumpers 52-9 right before my wedding. I just knew we would kick their asses that day and I was dying to watch the game. I wasn't sure if I'd find a way to watch the game live. I'm still surprised to this day that I didn't take any heat from the wife for that.

If I can't go to a game, I'm always glued to the t.v. games. Off the top of my head, here's the games/results I've been to the last few seasons. Not quite as impressive as Soonerfans24's list, but I go to the games everytime I get a chance and have the funds to!

The '03 big12 championship (of which we don't speak of) vs. KState<<This was the suckiest I've attended...froze my arse off, had a headache, and some annoying Kstate fans around us
'06 Big12 championship win vs. Nebraska 21-7
Won over Sand Aggies 34-24
Won over Colorado 24-3
Won over Washington 37-20
Won over Sheephumpers 42-14
Loss to TCU 10-17 <<<2nd on my suckiest games attended list
Won vs. Nebraska 30-3
Won vs. Oregon 31-7
Won vs. Bowling Green 40-24
Won vs. Sand aggies 60-15
Won vs. UTEP 68-0

I haven't been fortunate to be able to attend many OU games.

But I think living in Florida during the Dark Days should count as I had an OU shirt for every day of the week and proudly wore my OU hat every gameday.

I had to listen to crap like, "OU, they're a decent basketball school now." and "Florida is the true home of college football."

I moved back in 99, and OU started winning again. I like to think it was because I returned to my home state to live...but I think that Stoops guy may deserve some credit too.

I went to OU from '95 to '99. In 1997, I worked with a FSU fan who kept telling me OU would never be back and crap like that.

After we beat FSU in 2000, I went back and he was still there. He was still in shock, I think.

Season opener in 1999 (Stoops 1st year I thinketh) vs Indiana State 49-0 win. Paid about $150 for two tickets. Best $$$ I ever spent.

Last OU game that I ever saw in person at Memorial Stadium btw.

That was '91 during O-ten-and-one. 21-6. 1993 was when we only had 1 first down (by penalty), I think. There were at least 2 ags there in '91, since I was one of them and was not the person you described. Tone Jones threw a 50-yarder down to the 1 or so when it was maybe 14-6, which was quickly followed by a goal line stand netting the Pokes -8 yards, or so. It was truly pathetic, and a nice microcosm of the entire season.. And the ****ing Sooners I was with made me stay the whole time. Bastards. ;)

I live in Omaha and also attended this game. I sat at the top of the stadium and stayed for the entrie game. It was my first (live) OU vs NE game.

My best "I'm desperate to see the game" moment would be from on my wedding day back in '03 all of us guys scrounged up a t.v. from one of the church classes and piled up in a room of the church to watch us kick the crap out of the sheephumpers 52-9 right before my wedding.

Also, something else that too me proves that I'm no bandwagon fan is responding with "Sooner" with out thought when you are outside of an OU area or event (The state of Oklahoma, A Sooner game, An OU store, etc...).

An example of this is last week when I was in the KC airport. I just got off a flight and was on my way to the restroom when some guy saw my OU shirt and shouted "Boomer" and with out thought I responded with "Sooner". I can see how if you were at some place where there was a good chance that someone might yell "Boomer" that you would be ready to respond but it's these unexpected times that make me feel that I'm a real OU fan.

best point evar!

i have had a few awkward moments will traveling on vacation and see soem stranger wearing some sort of OU gear.

Nov 2001 Time Square -- NYC
see a gentleman walking on the other side of the street and gave him the obligatory 'BOOMER'!. after a brief hesitation, he looked over at me and gave the appropriate response.

Mar 2003 -- in the strip in Las Vegas
a kid in his 20s gets out of a cab wearing an OU ballcap. once again, the obligatory 'BOOMER' offered. kid looks at me like i was getting ready to rob him. after pausing a few seconds, i told that 'if you are going to wear that hat, at the very least understand what it means to wear it' his response, 'im from San Diego'. in disgust i walked away.

July 2006 -- on Navy Pier in Chicago
Gentleman approaches wearing an OU shirt, and mrs okla21fan remembering our LV debacle, asks 'you or me'? since I claim to wear the pants in the family almost immediately a 'BOOMER' sounds out of my mouth. gentleman quizzically looks at me and as he walks by he mumbles...'oh yeah....the shirt'

Maybe I missed it somewhere but how about the 2001 home game against Kansas State? I know this isn't an era of suckiness but to witness that game was nerve racking. Oklahoma led 36-14, wins game 38-37. I have been to many, including a few bowls:

1988 Orange (4 y/o)
1999 Indy, 2001 Orange, 2002 Cotton (really boring), 2003 Rose (best football atmosphere), 2004 Sugar, 2005 Orange

3 suckiest ones for me were

At Southern Cal in 1988...lost 23-7
At Arizona in 1989..........lost 6-3
Fiesta Bowl loss to Arizona State 32-21 jan 1 1983

One highlight from the Arizona game....A drunk Cat fan came into the OU section waving a plastic bag filled with white powder. Some fat OU fan decked him. Good times.

In 1993, I had just met my future wife, who was a junior at OU, and I drove out from Pennsylvania to see her over fall break. I went with her and her family to see my first ever college game in person.

It was against Colorado and OU lost 27-10 if I remember correctly.

The thing I'll never forget, though was when, with the game already decided, OU scored its first points of the game, a field goal, and the Sooner Schooner made its way onto the field and then tipped over.

I drove all the way from Charleston SC on Thursday to make it to the Homecoming game vs. KU in 04. Got down there went to game visit with grandparents drove back Sunday. Oh yeah forgot to mention that I broke my foot WED afternoon. I was not going to be denied! Was in the car for 48 of 72 hour weekend. I got chance to see the great AD suit up and tear down the field. Man what a day that was. The weather was perfect, OU won, got to see all there was to see.

I was at that game too. One of my daugher's classmates observed "that's just great - all it needs now s a flaming arrow through the canvas." I think we were playing CU and it was a stinky game.

13-12, Cal... IN NORMAN, 1998.

I had great seats for the dullest game ever played. :(

Thank God for Stoops :)

You know your season is shot when you see duct tape on the turf. 1992 had to be the worst season during my years there; 5-4-2, with the tie to the ags. What was worse is that we were down by three at the end; we managed the field goal to save the loss.

My freshman year was the last year of probation; TV but no bowl. But at least I saw us pound NU.

That is not true - not true by a long shot. If that's your mentality that's fine, just because we didn't make to campus for our college years, doesn't mean we don't bleed crimson & cream. You don't understand the passion some of us feel for the Sooners. Come on down to Durant next fall when the Sooners are playing on the road & watch a game with us. It'll be a full house, loud.....and a ton of fun.

Didn't go to school there, I played ball on a scholly, just wasn't good enough to be a Sooner, but I have been a true fan since the late 70's......

I have been to 2 games.1993 I was in 8th grade OU was playing against ATM in Norman "Experts" Weren't giving us a shot in Hell.We were ranked 20 I believe and ATM 4th.We went up 20-0.And some Aggie fans behind us kept saying just wait...like they were gonna pull off a comeback. We won 44-14 I.I got pictures of the players on the sidelines when I snuck down with my disposable. The second being the much talked about 98 game vs Cal.I remeber Ou hit a tight end screen I believe for A T.D. I thought we were gonna kill Cal needless to say A late FG later and a 13-12 loss I realized Blake is still our Coach and things aren't gonna change until he leaves.....God bless Joe and Bob, a few months later I was shaking hands with them when they came to Tulsa to scrimmage at Memorial H.S. I believe.

This is the stupidest thread ever. Why would anyone try to prove you are a better fan than another fan? All that proves is you have mental instability, and an insecurity complex.
Quit being such snobby fans and root for the Sooners win or lose.

I'm no bandwagon fan, I've been a fan for 5 or 6 years now. After OU beat FSU in the Orange Bowl, I was hooked. It's the people that became fans after I did that are the bandwagon fans.

IBM presents... YOU MAKE THE CALL!!

I started an aggie fan outta sibling rivalry. (root for anyone that plays OU). I then went to OU became a silent fan (too poor to go to the games even while in school there). Graduated got employeed. Started going to the games periodically. Financially stable. Got sooner saver season tickets (my only thanks I give to John Blake). Have been to every home game since Blake's last season. Am I a bandwagon fan? Should i mention that I turned off the TV in the game of which we shall never mention? AT HALF-TIME???

People that worry about bandwagon fans have too much time on their hands.

Teams that are awesome have bandwagon fans. Teams that suck don't. Such is life.

You can thank Gary Gibbs for the Sooner Saver. It was around several years before Boo got there.

I don't know how you gauge wheather a fan is bandwagon or not. Each year thre are fans that come on board for various reasons. Good for them and good for OU. I would guess that my status as a fan is not challenged by many on this board. I saw my first game OU vs Texas A&M in 1949 and have attended most homegames since minus Army service. Been to 5 Orange Bowls, Holliday Bowl, Rose Bowl, Sugar Bowl 2 times, Cotton Bowl, Been to all Big 12 schools away except NU. So if it is a thread to stick out your chest and say I been around a while, then add this to the list. Some have been to more games than me, but most won't live much longer and I'll move up the chart.

about that letter you may have received regarding your terminal illness...yeah...we meant to send it to the guy with your name that lives in Austin, Texas. It was purely a clerical error, feel free to sue the firm of Lid, Scholz, and HEH. :D

Texas A&M 51, Oklahoma 7

Stadium was half-empty at half-time. A trickle of Sooner fans were left at 0:00.

Super cold. Super crappy. Super depressing.

I was one of those fans left at the end of that game. I was sitting a few rows up on the five yard line, and when OU scored that touchdown I was jumping up and down like crazy. A SoonerVision cameraman was on the sideline right in front of me, so he turned the camera around and put my picture up on the screen. I didn't know it, however, until I saw him pointing up to the screen. I then saw me up there with the words "Thanks for being a great Sooner fan."

That, by the way, is the story of my sig.

The first game I attended was in my mother's arms in 1958 in Norman at the age nineteen MONTHS unless you count in utero in 1956. On December 24, 2007, I went to my mother's house in Oklahoma City. Among my Christmas gifts from her was a 2006 Big 12 Champion Football shirt. Among my gifts to her was a 2007 Fiesta Bowl long sleeved t-shirt. On Christmas Day, December 25, 2006, at 9:00 p.m., my stepfather called to tell me that my mother was taken by ambulance to the emergency room, unable to breathe. I put on the gift that she gave me to be by the bedside. I had reservations to fly to Phoenix for the 2007 Fiesta Bowl the morning of January 1, 2007, a rental car and a room at the Marriott with the sole return flight I could get back to OKC set for January 3rd. I kept hoping my mother would get better, but when she did not gain consciousness by December 31st, I cancelled my flight, car and room. My mother was never able to speak again from December 25, 2006, at 9:00 p.m. until January 3, 2007, at 9:00 a.m. when she passed away with my brothers, my stepfather and me at her side. Had I gone to the game I would not have made it back in time to be at her side when she died. I spent my first game in her arms fifty years ago. I missed the last game to be by her bedside four months ago. I'm glad I missed the game.

You're a good son, dear. This mama thanks you for sharing your story. God bless you and your family. I know your mom was proud of you.

And FWIW, what you did was the mark of the best kind of fan. Love of team balanced with perspective. Ya done good, kiddo.
