Japanese fooled in poodle scam (http://www.smh.com.au/news/World/Japanese-fooled-in-poodle-scam/2007/04/26/1177459875122.html)
Thousands of Japanese have been swindled in a scam in which they were sold Australian and British sheep and told they were poodles.
Flocks of sheep were imported to Japan and then sold by a company called Poodles as Pets, marketed as fashionable accessories, available at $1,600 each.
...
One couple said they became suspicious when they took their "dog" to have its claws trimmed and were told it had hooves.
Ye gods.

The scam was uncovered when Japanese moviestar Maiko Kawamaki went on a talk-show and wondered why her new pet would not bark or eat dog food.
She was crestfallen when told it was a sheep.

I think "Maiko Kawamaki's" name is misspelled in that story, and if it is, she's a "moviestar" in the same way Jenna Jameson is. Maybe I'm wrong. You people do a GIS of her name and decide for yourself.

Japanese Conned Into Buying Sheep As Poodles
Animals Sold Over Internet, Police Say
POSTED: 6:23 am MDT April 26, 2007
LONDON -- Thousands of Japanese residents have been 'fleeced' into buying neatly-groomed lambs they thought were poodles, The Metro newspaper of London reported Thursday.
The lambs were shipped from Great Britain and Australia to Japan by an Internet company advertising them as poodle puppies.
According to the newspaper, a Japanese actress suspected a scam after her "poodle" didn't bark and wouldn't eat dog food.
Maiko Kawakami showed photographs of her pet on a Japanese television talk show and found out it wasn't a dog -- but was in fact a lamb.
Authorities believe as many as 2,000 people have been conned.
'We launched an investigation after we were made aware that a company was selling sheep as poodles,' a police spokesman told The Sun newspaper.
One couple found out the truth only after a dog groomer told them she could not trim their poodle's claws because they were hooves.
The "poodles" sold for as much as $1,200, about half the price of poodle puppies in Japan.
The company, whose name translated as Poodles As Pets, has been shut down.

my old lady's family has a friend from there who lived with them in high school as a foreign exchange student.
his name is Hideoki and he's cool, visits every summer. anywho, he sent Camden a book for Christmas that had photos of all of these feral cats that live near the docks in Japan. they had these weird captions on them, one said the "cat look like Virgin Mary.":confused: :confused: :confused: :D

what is up with the Japanese and funny names? Can't they just name their kids like George, Bill or Dave or John next they'll be naming their kids Aquanesia or something, it's crazy.
