Ok everyone, after several months of discussion, we have made a big decision to move back to OK.

We had discussed several other places, one being North Carolina, but after further research and call it "gut feeling", OK is the place. We are so ready to get out of San Diego.

Now if you guys don't mind, could you give me some direction on where in Tulsa (or surrounding areas) you would recommend to live? I grew up in Sand Springs (but not too keen on going back there). We have two kids, will be in 7th and 8th grade. They are academically brilliant :D Daughter is in band and son likes to play basketball.

And next, does anyone know of who is hiring in the Tulsa area, specifically in the Accounting/Finance area? What I'm finding is it seems that Tulsa has a hidden job market. Not much listed on Monster, Careerbuilder, etc.

Your insight is appreciated ( I think ;) )

Thanks!

Seriously. You can't go wrong anywhere in Tulsa. Just buy the first place you see. They have hills and trees and stuff. Oh, and 500 new call center jobs, so the economic outlook is like, 1000% better than it was last week.

I like a lot of the homes in the 11th to 51st and Peoria to Lewis/Harvard area. They're all older neighborhoods but the houses are very nice.

I'm not sure if that's the "midtown" area or not.

So let me get this straight. You're moving from San Diego to Tulsa?

Hey, it's going to be okay, there's no shame in therapy. We all get a little bat *ss crazy from time to time.

Talk to your professional, he/she will steer you back in the right direction, which would be straight back west.

LOL, yea I get that reaction from most people. See, what you don't understand is that a 2 bed condo with no ocean view (which I don't care for anyhow) is $300k. That is insane. Because the pay out here does not correlate with the cost of living. Even if I could afford $300k on a house, I certainly wouldn't be spending it on a condo. There are no seasons. My kids haven't seen snow fall from the sky or lightning bugs. They have no idea what it is like to to go the lake and catch catfish, etc. Plus, out here no one GETS college football or sports at all for that matter. It's an afterthought. And if it does rain, we get 1/10th of an inch and they declare storm watch 2007. It's depressing, annoying, expensive and I can't wait to get out of here.

Uh, wrong. I've lived all over this country. I visit all the "nice" places on a regular basis. I could live anywhere I want within the 48, Hawaii, Alaska, or Puerto Rico with my job. And I choose to live in Oklahoma. There's probably 25 or more places I'd rather live than San Diego off the top of my head.

Dude, I was born in Colorado Springs. I lived in Fountainbleu, France, Bermuda, and Tucson growing up. In the military I lived in Louisiana, Georgia, North Carolina, Panama, and Oklahoma. When I was a kid I came to Oklahoma to work on my uncle Dean's farm. I hated every ****ing second of it. When I was a USPS student, I came to Norman for class. I hated every ****ing second of it except that I was able to go to OU football games (became a fan of OU football in the 4th grade). I've only lived permanently in Oklahoma for the past 16+ years. In that time I've travelled to 46 states with my job. I've spent extended periods in those places. Boston, NYC, Baltimore, D.C., Charlotte, Atlanta, Miami, Tampa, Houston, Dallas, Denver, St. Louis, Chicago, Milwaukee, K.C., Phoenix, Vegas, Salt Lake, Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, L.A., San Diego, Fresno, Sacramento, and many, many more cities.

And I'd rather live in Lexington, BY GAWD Oklahoma than any other place I've visited. By a very, very long shot.

I still do have a lot of frequent flier miles. And hotel points up the ying yang.

I actually like San Francisco a lot. Not to live, but to visit. It's my favorite place to hang out in California. France? They can have it. Seattle? Don't even get me started on those Kurt Cobain worshipping whale humpers.

Saw the NC reference - too bad...no matter where ya live you are only 3 or so hours away from the beach or mtns.

Just curious - was the company move involving a sizeable # of head-counts...shoot right now NC is giving out the cabbage to get things started..

Dell (sucs), Google, etc.....there's been smaller firms getting big loads of incentives just to move a small # of people in the state...and it isn't all Mfg. related.

Anyways, best of luck & hope it works out for everyone & yourself....

Actually, it's not a company move. It's just that we want out of SD and back home. What concerned me most about NC is how fast everything is growing and that the schools/roads can't keep up. Plus, everyone keeps talking about how jobs are very plentiful there. Well, not if everyone keeps moving there.

Also, we have a support system there in OK with family and all. We will have to get jobs once we get to OK, but it's difficult to do when you aren't there yet. So we're playing that game right now.

Thanks for your words of encouragement. I feel really peaceful with this decision and I think that's a must before we get into the craziness of the move and all.

Ok, question, how would you compare Owasso, Bixby, Broken Arrow, Jenks and possibly the Union Schools areas?
Not the most knowledgable about the area since I only moved here around 10 months ago, but I'll give it a try.

Owasso - Seems pretty nice at some parts, but a ways away from Tulsa (10 miles)

Bixby - I think it is growing fast and has some great new neighborhoods. Don't know much about the schools.

Broken Arrow - (I live here, near the Tulsa border) Labeled as Oklahoma's safest city and in the top 20 in the nation. It is rather larger with over 90,000 people. Some of the city is older, like downtown, but there are a lot of new neighborhoods coming up with cheap house prices but they are a little ways out (around 41st and 201st).

Jenks - Similar to BA, just not as large. There are many new neighborhoods coming up around 111 and Elm area.

I have heard that Union and Jenks school districts are some of the best in the state, not only for sports. I also heard that the BA schools were good. I have heard bad things about Tulsa Public Schools. I actually am in the Union school district, yet I live in BA. Where ever you live, you are going to be getting a lot more house for a lot less than you would be getting in San Diego.

Anyone else, feel free to correct me or add anything.

Not a bad description except that Owasso isn't that far from downtown. With 169-244, it is a short drive into downtown. Parts of BA are nice, but there are also sections that do not have great access to shops. I would recommend Jenks, Union, or the north Bixby area (north of the river) for schools. BA also has a reasonable school system, but it isn't what it used to be (wife works for the district). Do you have any petroleum-related experience in accounting or accounts payable in general? I could probably get you an interview with my company here in town (about 800 employees and stellar benefits).

if the kids were younger and you were going to pay for a private school, i'd suggest looking into the University School at TU

i thought i started there late in 7th grade(they go through 8th grade), but i still learned enough to coast through high school in a lot of areas
