Ok guys, here's the deal. I'm going to Greece in a month with the Film department (and religious studies department) and we'll be there for 12 or 13 days. We'll be in Athens, Kea, Poros, Delphi, and a few other places.

Following the tradition of other people around here going on trips... post your photo requests and i might try to get pictures.

I'll have a finalized itenerary this weekend, but we're supposed to see a bunch of temples (various cities) and the Acropolis in Athens, so I'll definitely have pictures of the Parthenon.

Originally we were supposed to have a free day in Athens, but I guess we couldn't get a flight back the day we planned and had to cut the trip a day short. So I don't know how much time we'll actually have in Athens. I'm excited, though.

thanks! I'm really glad my parents decided to let me go. My dad's still saying he's not sure I have permission--hehe. And I'm glad I managed to get scholarships for a third of the cost... and i've saved up a bunch of spending money.

some of the neighborhoods around the acropolis are pretty cool. the plaka is a little trendy but still a good time. there's another one that starts with an M, can't remember. Hadrian's gate is pretty cool near the temple of Zeus remains. there's also a really good little pizza shop right by there that specializes in different kinds of mushrooms (3,2,1....).

there's at least a few "homemade" ouzo shops in the Plaka. the deal with ouzo is you mix it with a little water until it turns milky--that's how you can drink it and not be under the table at 6:30. dinner is late in Greece and on the islands most restaurants don't open until the fishing boats come in a dusk (broiled fish stuffed with garlic and herbs can't be beat). and if you get really good fresh, pan-sauteed calimari, you won't be able to eat the rubbery deep fried stuff over here again. the homemade retsina is vastly better than the bottled swill. try it.

Greece is cool. you'll have a great time.

avoid Metaxa ouzo. Ouzo 12 is the better mass produced ouzo. but, see my previous comments about the homemade jobs in the Plaka and mixing it with water. that's how they do it.

That is too bad :( I lived on that island for over a year and the ruins at Knossos is a great place of historical significance.

When I was there I also visited the Sumaria Gorge and the small cove where Zorba The Greek was filmed. Chania is a great port town with plenty of great little places to eat and shop.

How many of the islands will you be visiting? Santorini is awesome too :)
