One of the most common misconceptions amongst taxpayers is that an extension filed today is an extension of payment.
If you're gonna owe taxes when you get around to filing your 2006 return, those taxes are due TODAY.
While it is possible to file an extension of time to FILE, this is not an extension of time to PAY.
If you're gonna owe, take a guess at how much and send it with your extension. Failure to do so will result in penalties and interest.

I think people should be able to pay what they owe with a credit card. :D
Why should the gubmint get off requiring cash when no one else does? Hmm?

I have a question...I was told once that if I was due a refund, I did not need to file an extension. Is that true or will I still be penalized if I do not file?
I heard we get an extra day due to some holiday in Washington DC

you can pay what you owe with a credit card. the fees are steep, but it can be done.
