Hendrix at Woodstock (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-3981364972665945187&q=hendrix+at+woodstock)

Actual visual of concert starts about 4-5 minutes in or you can just minimize and listen while hanging out here.

Edited to better video location

When the movie Woodstock played in OKC the then District Attorney, Curtis Harris threatened to shut it down if they played the part where Hendrix did the National Anthem. The theater showed that part but had the sound down to almost mute. When Jimi played the old fieldhouse at OU they let him play. I witnessed both.HEH!

I have that on my ipod. It's pretty impressive, and I don't blame him for not getting asked to play for any events other than protest things. His National Anthem is so distorted, but still in rhythm and put together so that it still sounds something like real music, but sends the message.

did you know...while recording the "layla and other love songs" album....eric clapton and duane allman decided to do a cover of "little wing" to play for jimi.

he died a shortly after the track was cut and never had the chance to hear two of the other great guitarist of that generation do thier thing to his work.

as for the national anthem comment posted....i find jimi's version beautiful.

I was at McCaslin Fieldhouse on that Spring night in 1970 when Jimi Hendrix, backed up by the Fort Worth band Bloodrock, just about blew the doors off the place. We sat on the floor, only about 35-40 feet from the stage, and the aroma of wacky tobacky permeated the whole place. You didn't have to be holding to get high that night!

OK, so I found "Live at the Filmore East" a 2 disc set tonight.

Oh.

My.

Gawd!!!!!!!

Instantly one of the 5 best albums I've ever heard. I mean up there with Kind of Blue, Live at Red Rocks, Back In Black, and Moondance.

Machine Gun in Norman, OK 1970??? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vnLwbaETQww)

More greatness.

What message is that exactly?

Protest of the Vietnam War, the draft, etc...

Don't get me wrong, I love listening to it. I was just making that comment he was never asked to play anything having to do with the government because I don't think the gubmint back then liked his message.

I'm not tryin' to stir up crap, both Jimi and SRV did great versions, I'm just diggin' on some good music today and thought I'd share some of the groove with y'all. Now, back to my hangover.
