His liver function is low reulting in jaundice(?).His level jumped from 13 to 19 from wednesday and thursday,at todays check it was still 19 and our dr. ssaid if it was his son he would opt for hospitalization for treatment over treating at home.I know this is common in preemies (Jason was born at 35 weeksand three days) but I am still worried. Please keep Jason in your prayers, thanks.

Just thought I would thank all for the prayers again and let you know that Jason got to come home today. Praise GOD.I would also thank Dr. Walker and the nursing staff for taking such TLC of Jason.

Thoughts and prayers.

It's not uncommon for this to happen even in full term newborns.

Most likely they'll keep him under a "Bili Light" (almost like a tanning bed) for a few days until his numbers return to normal.

Good luck. It's tough to see your kid in the hospital, but what SoonerGirl said is right. Hope all goes well.

I was 6.5 weeks preemie...I had to go back in five times in my first three months because of jaundice and other underdevelopmental problems (insert retard joke here).

Hang in there stoopefied...he'll be fine.

hopefully this passes without incident

jaundice is a pretty common preemie thing, they should be able to take care of him

anything with a baby is scary though :(

My thoughts are with you.

Trust me, I know it's tough, but the chances are good that everything will turn out all right.

Prayers here as well.

I was born jaundice as well, but I don't think I was a preemie. My mom apparently was told to give me sunbaths every day.

He will be ok. Take care of mommy too, if her hormones are all unbalanced right now, she may cry a lot. My youngest son had to stay under the lights for a couple weeks, but today he is a fine strapping young man. Keep your chin up.

My oldest was 4 weeks early and had jaundice. Extra water, a couple of days of the bili lights and then sunbathing in south-facing windows for a few weeks. He turned out okay.
FWIW, he's 26 and in grad school now.

It will be fine.

Mine were early and had some jaundice. I know that the ped docs and nurses will take great care of your son. We'll remember your family in prayers as well.

Jeebus. You're having one hell of a day. First, your friend turns pedo, and now this? You need a good stiff drink.;)

Regardless, consider it done.

In our thoughts and prayers.

To add to the list, our firstborn was a full-term baby and she was kept an extra couple of days in the hospital because of jaundice. They cleared it right up, and she's never looked back. She is now a beautiful, healthy, married 28-year-old. Jason will be out and keeping you awake all night very soon.

Our prayers for you, but don't be too worried. Very very common for preemies.

My oldest, Michael, was born 7 weeks early and was 4 lbs. 6 ounces, but then dropped to 3 lbs. 11 ounces before he started regaining weight. He was in the hospital for 23 days... born Dec. 1 and we got him out just in time for Christmas. Best present I ever received.

I'm proud to tell you he is now 11, one of the taller and thicker (not fat) boys in his class. In fact, in his first year of strapping on the pads last year in football he was on a (going into) 5th/6th team, and as a soon to be 5th grader he was the third biggest on his team. Only two 6th graders were bigger. It took him a little longer to come around in school, but it was mostly maturity issues. And this year he has taken off and is doing great... very good grades.

Some day you're gonna blink and be staring him eye-to-eye and realize... Dear Jesus it was just a second ago that I was holding you in the palm of my hand.

In. this is a pretty common thing and med staffs everywhere have a lot of experience with it. Hell, I had it when I was a baby and I was full term.

My baby was post-term (41w, 2d) and he still had jaundice. It went away on its own after a few days. Here's to a healthy Jason being home very soon.

IN.

My boy had to spend a lot of time in one of those Bili lights. Until it cleared up.

I'm intimately familiar with children issues unfortunately.

Prayers for the Stoopified crew and pure thoughts, kind words, and good vibes for all-a-y'all.

35 weeks and some days doesn't sound that premature to me.
I know it's not exactly "9 Months" for human gestation, but it's pretty close isn't it?
