dude, I rarely get an upper pain in my back. Usually lower. But on Sunday I quickly developed a pain between my shoulder blade. Usually these go away after a day or two, but this one is hanging around and has even migrated a little to my side under my arm and even part of my upper arm.

Does this sound like anything in particular to you?

Dang, I was taking care of my real(paying) patients.:D
Without an exam, who knows for sure but it sounds like a "rib" Usually one adjustment will take care of it pretty easily. If you don't want to go to the chiro, you might try icing it off and on through the day(15-20 minutes max at a time) and using some aleve or advil to reduce inflamation. In my experience even if it works, it usually takes several days and you are more prone to it returning.

The only other time this happened exactly this way the chiro attempted to adjust it and I squealed like a school girl. So I was putting off going in.

I'm taking aleve equivalent. I was just wondering if the progression of the thing might indicate something more specific.

Thanks

What exactly was he "adjusting"?

It's called a rib.

Where it intersects with the spine.

And it will make you cry if it's not in the mood to be adjusted.

or if you don't want to go to a chiro, you can go to a D.O.

:)

I can top that.

My wife will use my own pain as an excuse to abstain.

There's some pain that's worth the effort:O

Ouch! Yeah, I think something would have to be broken for me to admit pain then. :D

Surgery TBA.

Sucks, dude.

The doc thought a few weeks ago I had gallstones, but it turned out to be the lining in my esophagus. No surgery, just permanent acid reducers.

I'm just worried that you'll lose your edge when you have no gall. :)

Good luck on the surgery.

I am just glad it wasn't a heart attack. I've never had a pain hit me suddenly that I couldn't explain somewhat.

My brother is a pathologist up in Arlington, and over the phone he was leaning toward gallbladder based on my description. My blood pressure hit 175/124 and 195/111 during a few of the pain attacks.

I just knew that any moment that slice of pizza I had for dinner was going to burst through my chest cavity and start attacking other people.

THis description is much different than the first one you gave. Like I said, very difficult to dx over the net. Did you have an ultrasound to confirm stones?

My description originally was back pain between the shoulder blades that had migrated to my side just below the arm and the upper inside of the arm.

The chest/upper abdomen pain started last night about 9 PM after consuming some Hamburger Deep Dish from Pizza Hut.

I have my referral. I'm going to the specialist now. There's a chance they yank it today.

And yes, the ultrasound reveal that I have more stones than the average male.

No way SAS's kid could be confirmed as a boy via ultrasound.

Keep in mind that you could be dealing with 2 different things. Although it is common to have pain under the should blade that radiates from in inflammed gallbladder, what you described seems a bit unusual for that. It certainly could be but it could be the rib thing as a separate issue.

I understand. Usually I can associate back pain to specific situations. This one just came out of the blue. I'll handle the bladder thing and then assess the other. Of course I'm hoping for two birds with one stone, but we wont know until we get there.

Wish I would have seen this before.

http://digestive.niddk.nih.gov/ddiseases/pubs/gallstones/index.htm

Symptoms of gallstones are often called a gallstone "attack" because they occur suddenly. A typical attack can cause

* steady pain in the upper abdomen that increases rapidly and lasts from 30 minutes to several hours
* pain in the back between the shoulder blades
* pain under the right shoulder
* nausea or vomiting

aside from the nausea or vomiting it describes exactly what I was describing in this thread
