Apparently the office thought it would be fun to send me out here by myself. There is a directional driller and his trainee but they don't know how to run my computers. We're just taking surveys every 200 ft. and I'm not logging gamma so I have been sleeping quite a bit but it's nice to just be responsible for 12 hours of the day, not all 24.

Did you ever get your computer to work?

I take it you run a gamma tool near the bit? What do you use, cesium?

We're just directional only on this job so far. That's why one person can do it. I'm leaving when we get to kick off and two guys will replace me.

When we run gamma we have to have two people. The 3 most common sources of gamma rays that we read are Uranium, Thorium and Potasium.
We use a scintillation counter to count them. Oh, it's a sodium iodide crystal that measures them in the scintillation counter.

Ahh, the Spectal Gamma Ray. Better than the Normal. I thought the source of cesium was used to detect the U, Th, K in the formation.

I have no idea. There's probably more than one way to do it, we just use a sodium iodide crystal.

I have no idea whether I should feel bad for you or celebrate.
