that was solid. phillip kinney was the one i couldn't think of thaty signed with OU and didn't qualify off the ike team in 1990.

i'll have to make a list and re-post later. off the top of my head, from mac: rod fisher (Mac, OU), chris burk (Mac, fresno st.) also richard loiselle (LHS, pitched for the pirates)... i'll come back later...

OregonSooner - Are you from Lawton?
I'm an eastern Oregon sooner from LHS-68. We didn't have any greats in our class. Only know of one that got a scholarship to OU. But LHS did furnish a coach in '67 -Jimmerson who supplied a son that played

GYOKIE,LHS class of 1974---I do not know if they were seniors in 1968 but they had to be on the team. Johny Robertson(DB Kst),Rhondo Copenbarger(DB Kst),Tom Speed(exceptional lineman),Joe Shegog(became NAIA All-Amer. at Southwestern). Robertson and Copenbarger played in the World Football league. I believe Robertson's son was an outstanding basketball player for Kansas just a few years ago. Clyde Powers was probably a Junior in 68. Bowman followed Jimmerson and inherited a great team that won the state title in 71.

I didn't know Robertson went on to play at KSU. Didn't know Tom Speed, Copenbarger and Shegog were Jrs. Copenbarger was a backup and Joe Dean plalyed quite abit, I was waiting for him to become a heisman. LHS had him scouted out when he was in the 7th grade. And it's news to me they won state in '71, I was in SE Asia doing other things. The only thing I remember in '71 was listening to the game of the century at 3 in the morning over AFVN.

A couple of names you might remember. Bill Robey(RB)-I think he went to Tulsa. Earnest Dufflemeyer. Two cousins from your time. Mark and Dralen Terry. They both got into the drag race habit with Rodney Holloway. Glad you survived your adventure--it was a different world back then.

jogging my memory, bill robey was a red head then and did pretty good, but I don't remember Dufflemeyer or the Terrys.Do you remember the Partons, Arthur and Charlie who were Kiowas? Also, I believe Randy Breeze was the head coach recently for LHS, which I find strange because since he was so laid back then. When was Leroy Horn the head coach? I didn't too care much for him.

I would like to say that Lawton has produced many fine athletes over the years, but starting with IKE and LHS in 1987 teams really produced a string of players, if had their head on straight (some did) would really be a claim that no town in America could make, in terms of the numbers of players in D1/NFL. Or at least I would think. That list only includes the big names but many others went on to play other sports in college and in the bigs. Butch Huskey is one that comes to mind. Played for the Mets, Seattle, and Minnisota.

IKE Class of '89
State-Runner UP - Football (Gundy beat us in the last 60 seconds, that Bastard)

So the vote is in....Lawton represents in OK for providing top atheletes. I would imagine FT. SILL has alot if not all to do with it.

Also I think Bill Whitely, IKE's current coach played for OU as well.

Same in El Paso, the traditional football powers were Irvin and Andress, the high schools closest to Ft. Bliss.

no question that ft sill has a lot to do with it. if it weren't for ft sill and that goodyear plant, lawton would dry up and blow away
