View Full Version : SO Photo Thread -- Spring

OK, so the photo contest thing didn't work out so well. After a promising start, participation plumeted. Even so, I'd like to see the photos you guys can make with those shiny digital cameras that you have hidden away in your desk drawers.
So I'm going to start these threads once in a while. I'll post a theme, and maybe a photo or two, and then I want to see the pictures that you've made.
Unlike the contest, there aren't going to be a bunch of rules. No deadlines or anything like that. The only rule that I'd like to see followed is that you (or your immediate family member) created the image that you post. Oh, and the PG13 at the very worst rule from Norm's contest of course.
It would be great if this gets somebody to go take new pictures, but feel free to post one that you took years ago, and have just scanned into the computer. There are lots of image hosting places on the web, but if you're having problems pm me and we'll work something out.
Maybe if this idea goes ok we can break out the photo contests again, but later for that.
For this first one, let's see your photos of:

I had a beautiful blooming wisteria out on my deck with a dove nesting in it (I've named her Miss Dee) .
notice I said HAD. the storms did a number on it yesterday.
I managed to get a few pics of the blooms and Miss Dee a couple of days ago before my camera battery crapped out. I'll try to post em this weekend.

My view changes weekly. Got here Tuesday, leaving tonight. This is by far the prettiest view I've had. Some would have been prettier if the grass was growing.
I like this idea. That way, all of the wealth, fame and accolades that were associated with the previous contests won't scare potential amateur photographers from submitting their work.

Fraggle, I spent a summer down there when I was in highschool. Summer of 1980 (if I remember correctly). I don't guess Dr. Hill is still running the place?
Man we had a great time down there. As high schoolers, we only took one class so that left lots of time for swimming (and mud fights). I wrote a paper on pit distribution of the ant lion (Neuroptera myrmeleontidae) that was widely regarded as excellent work by the scientific community (read, my mom.)

Thanks. They're pretty proud of it, and for good reason.
My dad built the waterfalls himself. It leads down to a koi pond right behind where the camera is in the second photo. There's a lot of rock that he hauled from roadside outcroppings.

We had never seen it before about 3 years ago either. Bought a very small one at Lowe's towards the end of summer. well, it's VERY invasive...and it LOVE'S the heat. It doesn't even start to bloom until late August, when it's really cooking. And it's a creeping flower...it will vine into and through everything.
We planted the one small plant on the east side of our house, and now 3 years later I have tiny stalks of it sprout up in my SOUTH side yard in between mowings. sure is a cool flower though.
