Any tips? We're looking for just a cheap starter home and I'd appreciate any input.

TIA

Don't buy close to the campus. ;)

You never know when Boone might want a little more space.

Anyone know anything about the surrounding towns? Cushing? Perkins? Morrison? Etc?

Move to Guthrie and commute to StillH2O. You'll be closer to Norman, and civilization, that way.

Perkins or Morrison is your best bet. Decent starter homes here are $130+. Too many morons are buying them for investment purposes. The joke's on them when aggy closes their campus to all but the married students in a few years.

And f*ck everyone who thinks Stillwater = Boone State, it doesn't.

I found some for under 80 but I don't know what they look like. We just want an old small house for cheap.

A poor choice of words on my part. I should have said post-depression/WW2 era.

It's okay, I knew what you meant. I'm okay with an older home. Mrs and I just need a place to lay our heads, fix up a little, let the dogs play in the yard, and flip in about five years after I get my PhD.

If you don't want to deal with crappy neighborhoods and college kids, I'd say look for something in Perkins first. Then maybe something north of town close to Morrison.

The type of home you're looking for in Stillwater will more than likely put you right close to campus or in not-so-great neighborhoods. There's stuff for sale in our subdivision on the north edge of town, but they're probably going to be out of your price range.

Shoot me a PM if you want me to check for you.

Perkins just built a set of brand new apartments over on Lover's Lane just south of the golf course, but I don't know anything about them other than they are brand new.

I would imagine that 90% of the rental houses in Perkins are pet friendly. and Perkins just doesn't have a lot of apartment complexes or duplexes to speak of. It's still a small town.

We'll be renting an apartment in Stillwater as of April 16th. Mrssoonerhubler got a job at Cushing Regional Medical Center so things are coming together. I can't wait to move. :) We'll prolly just save for a year while we're there and try to find a house in Perkins after that.

Dont know much about Cushing, other than when I drive through it, it appears to suck.

Stillwater is really nice for a decent size town, if you get the right neighborhood. Perkins is really nice too, and with the new 4 lane between it and Stillwater, it should start growing like a weed.

Oh and some of my new neighbors just moved from Utah. What's running you guys out?

Not enough chiggers and humidity in Utah to keep us happy. ;) BTW I meant to say May 16 not April. We'll be moving there shortly. I so can't wait.

I'm wanting to buy a house in Perkins in about a year.
