I know it's been discussed, but the search isn't working for me. Anyone here use the BGE? If so, what size do you have and how do you like it?

I want a Kamado, but can't justify spending THAT much, so I might just have to go with a large BGE and the cyprus table that goes along with it.

I'm trying to decide between the large and the medium.

I went to the BBQ store in OKC today. I had forgotten how big the weber kettle ranch grills are. freaking huge.

I have the large BGE and absolutely love it. It is totally worth the money.

I would advise getting the large or extra large. Smaller than that and you will start limiting what you can cook on it.

I've got a gas grill in which the ignitor hasn't been working properly and I've had to resort to matches and closing the lid quickly in an attempt to light the grill. I'm thinking about going to a charcoal grill. Thought about the bge too though.

lump charcoal is the shiznit. Way less ash. A regular size bag lasts me about a year. Beats the heck out of plain ol' charcoal.

really? I guess you only fire up a portion of the large BGE if you're using that little fuel?

A bassin' buddy in...gag...Austin has a BGE and he sez it's the cat's pajamas and the bee's knees.
I've never been priveleged to sample the wares, so I can't attest thereto but if "Cousin Charlie" sez it, it must be so.
If I recall correctly, there is some issue regarding the seal on the BGE, but that seems to be easily remedied.
I can ask him if yew want.

You only need a couple of large handfuls of lump charcoal to cook. The entire vessel is utilized, there is no portioning of it. I also dig the fact you can get the intense focused heat (over 500F if necessary) the steak house is able to get. Alternatively, through use of its dampers, you can get it down to the mid 100's if you need to for smoking.

if anyone in interested, next weekend is Oklahoma Eggfest down here at Everything BBQ in OKC. People are flying in to teach classes and everything.

The best thing is that you can buy on of the demo eggs at a discounted rate. I just bought a large, with instructional DVD and eggnest at a $200 discount.

Check the Forest Kitchen Design Center at 50 North May. I think they have them for less moolah.

the deal in OKC is the same price as on there, but it includes the nest on casters, a dvd, a book and they have classes all day.

Tonight we were pressed for time for cooking dinner. I had thawed a couple of chicken breasts so I recommended those. The coals were hot within 10 minutes and the breasts were cooked about 15 minutes after that.

There was no sauce, salt, marinating, basting or anything. Just cooked chicken. It was really good. The best thing about the egg is that it cooks the basics better than anything else. You almost have to try it to believe it.

Oh, and the Big Green Egg is strict with their warranty and delivery. If it is shipped by a third party vendor their lifetime warranty is voided. There are some exceptions so you should probably check their website. Once you have the egg, the warranty is great, but the shipping is a bit of a sticking point for them.

no s**t. For $2500, the grill should prepare the food for you and clean up afterward.
