49 years ago today, Elvis Presley is inducted into the army. Although he had been drafted the previous December, the army granted him a deferral so he could finish shooting his film, King Creole.

Elvis served his enlistment in Germany in a US armored division. Elvis' hillbilly greatness was further increased when he met and fell in love with a 14 y/o girl.

While stationed in Germany, he met and fell in love with a young girl named Priscilla Beaulieu, the daughter of a USAF officer. Priscilla, an AF brat, was 14 years old when she met Elvis in Wiesbaden in 1959. Elvis was 23 at the time.

In a masterful stroke of hillbilly genius, Elvis persuaded Priscilla's daddy to allow Priscilla to move to the US when his Army tour was up and live in his palatial hillbilly compound. Priscilla's daddy allowed it on condition Elvis promised to marry her when she was old enough.

Like a good hillbilly, Elvis eventually kept his promise and married her in 1967.

While I quite agree Alvin York was, and still is, the "Greatest Military Hillbilly of All Time," EP was, and still is, "THE Greatest Hillbilly of All Time."

Homey, dya think you woulda let Homey, Jr go live with a star singer like 'Cilla's Daddy did?

YGBSM.

Also, as Mrs Homey reminded me this morning, Lisa Marie was born about 7 months after Elvis and 'Cilla's wedding.

I've always heard that The King placed the order on his wedding night.

That could have been an old tale I heard to keep his image pure.

Didn't 'Cilla claim that they didn't do the horizontal slide until after the wedding vows?
