View Full Version : New CPR technique?

I just saw on the news where some group is trying to promote chest compressions only. No rescue breathing.

If I remember correctly it wasn't too long ago that the prevailing thought was to do away with compressions and only do rescue breathing because most people when giving CPR don't compress the chest enough to pump any blood?

Any of you firefighters know anything about this?

I'm not a firefighter, but I am a nurse so I hope you'll accept my answer none the less.:D

They're making the changes for two reasons:

1. They've deemed it more important to keep the blood circulating by doing chest compressions, thus keeping the oxygen that's remaining in the blood to continue to circulate

2. It's easier to get people to do chest compressions on a person who's just collapsed than mouth-to-mouth.

I'm ACLS certified, so I'm well qualified to do more than just mouth-to-mouth. ;)

i'd be careful 1tc, the first time she catches you peeing on the carpet, she might hook you up with a catheter

You've obviously never had a catheter before.
