when did we lose to Butler? we beat Butler the year we made the round of 8, and lost to the Cuse because Kelvin couldn't figure out how to run our offense against the zone.

that was a pretty good team that lost to Purdue, that was too bad.

that INdiana game was tough, but Corey Brewer brought us back from the dead.

lost to the Cuse because Kelvin couldn't figure out how to run our offense against the zone. Heck, no Big 12 team could figure it out that year.

Cuse knocked out Manhattan, Oklahoma State, Auburn, OU, Texas and Kansas in order to win that one.

oh i know, i'm just saying we couldn't get the ball inside the top of the key with less than 10 seconds on the shot clock.

the Pokies were up double digits on Syracuse that year before choking like mad. I remember watching that game.

Refs called it tight with the Sanders/Melo matchup, then G-Mac went off, I believe.

Just because I got curious and reminiscent, here's the end of the season in each of Kelvin-ball:

94-95 - Manhattan (NCAA - 1st Round)
95-96 - Temple (NCAA - 1st Round)
96-97 - Stanford (NCAA - 1st Round)
97-98 - Indiana (NCAA - 1st Round)
98-99 - Michigan State (NCAA - Sweet Sixteen)
99-00 - Purdue (NCAA - 2nd Round)
00-01 - Indiana State (NCAA - 1st Round)
01-02 - Indiana (NCAA - Final Four)
02-03 - Syracuse (NCAA - Elite Eight)
03-04 - Michigan (NIT - 2nd Round)
04-05 - Utah (NCAA - 2nd Round)
05-06 - Wisconsin-Milwaukee (NCAA - 1st Round)

There are some absolute heartbreakers in there.

i can't believe that was over 10 years ago, i'm getting old.

few things about Indiana.

they live and die by the three. and there was that all too familiar scoreless span ib the offensive side of the court.

In those five years, 3 of those losses were to teams who played for the title that year. Two of them won it.

that's an interesting point, but if Kenyon Martin doesn't break his leg in the C-USA tournament....I bet Cincy wins it all in 98-99. they were just dominant. they waxed our *** in front of a SRO crowd at the LNC. we were never *in* that game.

7 busts in 5 years?

Dude, you need to learn to let go. I was simply stating that we ran into some pretty stiff competition those few years. It's probably not often that one coach is eliminated twice by eventual national championship teams in the span of 5 years.

And if Quannas White doesn't injure his foot in 01-02, I think we would've won it all.

But, yeah, that Cincy team was stout.

Listen, just to set the record straight I have GREAT respect for Kelvin and believe he is a great coach and I hated to see him leave...still we had some painful losses with him and we had a lot of great victories with him...I would have been content to keep Kelvin for many more years...

I don't know if we win it all in 01-02 simply because Maryland was playing much better at that time then they were when we kicked their asses. But we would have definitely given Maryland a better game then Indiana did.

I was there too. we cut the lead to 6 once in the first half and the crowd went nuts. Huggy called TO, and then they scored the next 9 points or something. game over.

the key to that potential game was could Ace body up on Lonny Baxter like he did in Norman, and would Blake have the complete ofer game he had in Norman from beyond the arc.

You are correct. UConn won it all that year against a great Duke team in a classic game.

Well, Kansas took Maryland to the finish and we beat Kansas just a few weeks before that.

Plus, like you said, we beat Maryland earlier that year and we were rolling coming into that Final Four. In the two months prior we were 16-1 with the 1 being an OT loss in Stillwater.

What was the one thing that changed? Quannas got hurt.
