We're about seven hours away from arguably the best four days of the sports calendar (I put that up there with New Year's Day, Super Bowl Sunday, MLB opening day, the opening Saturday of the college football season and the opening Sunday of the NFL season as my most anticipated sporting events of the year). In fact, I like the first two rounds of the NCAA's much better than I do the actual Final Four. So I'll go ahead and start the 2007 NCAA Tournament thread. Now, off to get some sleep before getting up right at 11 a.m.

Stanford, thanks for playing the game.

Davidson trying to pull off the first upset of the tournament.

Texas Tech-BC becoming a pretty good game, but the Eagles now have a six-point lead.

I wish BC would quit letting Tech hang around.

no, Stanford has debunked the theory that little schools should be in the play in game instead of sucky teams from major conferences.

Stanford we have these lovely parting gifts for you...bye bye
A case of Turtle Wax and a box of Rice-a-Roni, the San Francisco Treat.

And it looks like the Red Raiders will be joining the Cardinal in picking up the parting gifts.

When was the last time a Bob Knight-coached team was the first team to say sayonara on the opening day of the tourney, if ever?

Meanwhile, Maryland hanging on to a five-point lead with a minute and change.

Fear the Turtle; Maryland's moving on.

Right now, we've got the Wazzu-ORU game on. Hopefully, they will stay with this game. I won't be the least bit shocked if the team formerly known as the Titans pull off the upset.

AllAboutThe'O'
3/15/2007, 01:42 PM
Oh, and I say that and they switch us to the last 10 meaningless seconds of Louisville's rout over Stanford.

King Crimson
3/15/2007, 01:47 PM
what is ORU called now?

Knight has lost several times in the first round, that i know. his last IU team got bombed by Pepperdine. in 99 maybe.

3/15/2007, 02:14 PM
Now we're getting Penn-ATM here.

Soonerchaz
3/15/2007, 02:18 PM
ORU by 2 at half...but WSU has the 'mo. Scored with 3 seconds left...then stole the inbound and dunked at the buzzer.

AllAboutThe'O'
3/15/2007, 02:23 PM
ATM already off to a 7-0 start. Now it's 10-3.

AllAboutThe'O'
3/15/2007, 02:25 PM
Belmont was surprising Georgetown early, but Hoyas now taking control, up 10 with over five minutes left in the opening half. I have the Hoya Paranoia going to the finals, so I've got to pull for them somewhat.

AllAboutThe'O'
3/15/2007, 02:41 PM
Is Wazzu on like a 14-0 run or something? ORU was up by like seven going into the final minute of the first half then I look up and see Wazzu up eight.

AllAboutThe'O'
3/15/2007, 03:05 PM
Wazzu up by double digits now, ATM and Georgetown have big leads as well. Old Dominion-Butler might go down to the wire, though.

AllAboutThe'O'
3/15/2007, 03:19 PM
Wazzu just prevailed, 70-54. Impressive play on their part in the second half.

Looks like the ODU-Butler game is still the only one that is somewhat interesting.

I don't hate Kelvin Sampson.

I appreciate all that he did here.

He did some great things and some mindboggling bad things.

He was an ambasidor of CBB and OU for many years.

He deserves all the praise he gets.

He also deserves all the critisism.

We all just finished the first season after he left and it's becoming clear to many of us the impact of his 12 years. Good and bad.

I almost feel sorry for him throwing away his golden boy image, nationally with the probation. Which, by the way, is hurting recruiting, as we have less offers we can make.

I have no hate for Kelvin and wish him well. It's just unfortunate that we had to endure the fruits of his actions this year.

I am optimistice about our future and will not mention Kelvin again after this thread.

BOOMER SOONER!

I did, I am begining to think that at the end of the day, we got a better coach than IU did. We'll see.

I hope we get some drama tonight. The d00k game was good last night, but this tournament needs more of those games.
Yeah, the first round for the most part has been a snoozefest, save for the VCU and Winthrop upsets as well as the Nevada-Creighton overtime game. Va. Tech also had a nice comeback over Illinois.
Maybe the second round will more than make up for the lack of drama in the opening round.

See, people like you and me were the ones who would've been TRULY screwed. If you just had Ohio State going to the Final Four your bracket would've taken a hit, but no more of a hit than most people's. Unless your brackets were almost identical to everyone else's in your group, a loss like this isn't devastating unless you have them winning it all.

tOSU won. It turns out that the game wouldn't have mattered, as the entire office pool had tOSU in the Elite 8 at least.

I did end up watching the end. I respect the jinx, but it only goes so far. I turned it back on when Cage was at the line up by 2 with 9 seconds left. I knew if he made them both, it was over, so I wanted to turn it off because I was pretty sure that if I watched, he'd make them both. But I went ahead and watched and saw him hit the first and miss the second and then I saw the big 3.

I figured I'd watch OT until it got bad for Ohio State, so I got to see all that...I was just wondering what Drew did that (as I understood it) must've lost the game for Xavier. But I guess I misunderstood.

Maryland kinda got a tough break on that charging call late in the game.

That ref was pretty slow making the call. He blew the whistle and then just stood there for a second before any signal. Indecision, even if it's just perceived indecision, is not good that late in a tight game. Especially on a charge.
