Come on Vandy make my bracket picks better!
No, I'm on the Wazzu bandwagon. I've stuck my neck out for these guys to make the Sweet 16 and don't want to be disappointed.

Newbomb Turk
3/17/2007, 06:45 PM
I'll say it again - these games today RMFO!

No, I'm on the Wazzu bandwagon. I've stuck my neck out for these guys to make the Sweet 16 and don't want to be disappointed.

Pac Ten is teh succ. I had ORU beating them and Vandy going to the sweet 16!

SleestakSooner

Newbomb Turk

Double OT - good stuff.

come on Warshington.

AllAboutThe'O'
3/17/2007, 07:00 PM
The madness continues.

Vandy-Wazzu going to double OT and VCU has come all the way back to tie Pitt with less than two minutes left.

What a day of hoop viewing.

Newbomb Turk
3/17/2007, 07:01 PM
Vandy-Wazzu going to double OT and VCU has come all the way back to tie Pitt with less than two minutes left.

I didn't even see that. This makes up for the relatively boring first round.

SleestakSooner
3/17/2007, 07:02 PM
Hey announcer morans!!!!!

Kick ball stops clock and gives possession to other team!

AllAboutThe'O'
3/17/2007, 07:02 PM
Now we've got the cut-in to VCU-Pitt. Makes sense; there's only 1:30 left in regulation compared to 4:30 left in double OT of Vandy-Wazzu.

Newbomb Turk
3/17/2007, 07:03 PM
I think you should be able to kick the ball, but that's just me.

CBS needs to go to split screen. I remember ESPN doing that back in the day when they covered the 1st and 2nd rounds.

Newbomb Turk
3/17/2007, 07:04 PM
Man - I don't know about that foul on VCU. Let them play.

SleestakSooner
3/17/2007, 07:05 PM
"BOTH GUYS FOULED HIM"???? Do these announcers even watch the same games I am watching?

Newbomb Turk
3/17/2007, 07:05 PM
justice for VCU.

SleestakSooner
3/17/2007, 07:05 PM
Pitt deserves to lose at this point.

AllAboutThe'O'
3/17/2007, 07:06 PM
While it's been a great day of hoop viewing, it's also a stark reminder of the importance of hitting foul shots. We saw it with Xavier, we saw it with Louisville and we just saw it with a Pitt guy bricking two foul shots with two seconds left, leading to OT. Guys, make your free throws.

SleestakSooner
3/17/2007, 07:07 PM
Nice steal and FLUSH!

AllAboutThe'O'
3/17/2007, 07:07 PM
Pitt deserves to lose at this point.
Pitt's one of those schools you can always count on to choke in the tourney on an annual basis.

Meanwhile, Vandy's up four with two minutes left in double OT.

SleestakSooner
3/17/2007, 07:08 PM
Make these and this game should be done. Go Vandy!

SleestakSooner
3/17/2007, 07:10 PM
Wow! Another missed free throw could be the difference again.

SleestakSooner
3/17/2007, 07:11 PM
Thanks for redeeming my bracket a little bit Vandy. :)

AllAboutThe'O'
3/17/2007, 07:13 PM
Arggggggggg. Freakin' Vandy. Oh well, another great game nevertheless.

And we haven't seen the end of Wazzu. They could be next year what Texas A&M was this year, the team with minimal basketball tradition that becomes a trendy Final Four pick.

SleestakSooner
3/17/2007, 07:15 PM
Valliant come back by VCU may go for naught. Reminds me of the year OU came back to tie up Indy only to lose in OT after being down by 20.

Rogue
3/17/2007, 07:20 PM
Pitt won't cover my vcash though.

SleestakSooner
3/17/2007, 07:22 PM
Pitt won't cover my vcash though.

Hell if they don't make a free throw they may not cover the VCU score.

SleestakSooner
3/17/2007, 07:24 PM
OMG! Ball is on the floor and they call a reach in foul on the VCU player? I just dunno bout these refs.

AllAboutThe'O'
3/17/2007, 07:27 PM
And Pitt advances.

I guess it's Kelvin time - UCLA and Indiana.

Pretty good NCAA historic matchup right here.

3/17/2007, 07:46 PM
Go Bruins!

Newbomb Turk
3/17/2007, 08:06 PM
kind of an ugly, low scoring game so far. Go figure.

SleestakSooner

I like Kelvin, but I think he would have loved coaching in the pre-shotclock era.

SleestakSooner
3/17/2007, 08:16 PM

SleestakSooner
3/17/2007, 08:24 PM

Newbomb Turk

What is the NCAA tourney record for the least points in the 1st half - since the shot-clock? Seriously!

Newbomb Turk
3/17/2007, 08:38 PM
This NC/Mich St. game is a good'n.

Newbomb Turk
3/17/2007, 08:41 PM
Hansborough is a warrior.

PrideTrombone
3/17/2007, 08:48 PM
That UCLA/Indiana first half is unquestionably the ugliest half of basketball I've ever seen.

Newbomb Turk
3/17/2007, 08:50 PM
What is the NCAA tourney record for the least points in the 1st half - since the shot-clock? Seriously!

I've done a little searching, but I can't find anything on lowest points in a half - since the shot-clock. Indiana's 13 just might be a record.

Rogue
3/17/2007, 09:02 PM
Glad I have the UNC game on. Unfortunately the same schedulers must decide the football coverage around here.

Newbomb Turk
3/17/2007, 09:04 PM
Luckily we have UNc and Mich St too. Good game.

SleestakSooner
3/17/2007, 09:04 PM
Hansboro has scored half of UNC's points!

Newbomb Turk
3/17/2007, 09:06 PM
and just like that Carolina takes a decent lead.

Newbomb Turk
3/17/2007, 09:08 PM
Hey - Indiana has 16 points now.

Newbomb Turk
3/17/2007, 09:14 PM
and Indiana hits 20 points at the 13:00 mark of the 2nd half.

Michigan St. is hanging tough, but I don't think they have the horses to stay with NC.

Newbomb Turk
3/17/2007, 09:20 PM
Really impressed with Neitzel and Hansborough in this game.

Newbomb Turk
3/17/2007, 09:24 PM
I know that NC is a #1, but it seems like they and Duke always get to play close to home.

PrideTrombone
3/17/2007, 09:24 PM
I wish this UNC-Mich St. game would go to 5 overtimes so we don't have to see any more of Indiana-UCLA.

Newbomb Turk
3/17/2007, 09:26 PM
I wish this UNC-Mich St. game would go to 5 overtimes so we don't have to see any more of Indiana-UCLA.

no doubt. This NC game has been pretty good, but all of those good games early today, and now this.

Newbomb Turk
3/17/2007, 09:34 PM
well, I'll give Kelvin credit for hanging within striking distance of UCLA. That said, no chance for Indiana to win this game.

Rogue
3/17/2007, 09:38 PM

Newbomb Turk
3/17/2007, 09:45 PM
Indiana making a game of this.

PrideTrombone
3/17/2007, 09:46 PM

I feel mixed emotions seeing USC laying the wood on Texas. While it's always a great day when the 'Horns go down, I fear that USC could be right up there real soon with Florida and Ohio State as dual football-basketball powers. And the Trojans' best is yet to come when O.J. Mayo arrives, baggage and all, to La-La land next year.

So we've had the replay stuffed down our throats enough to see that Green did walk on that last basket, but it's easy for me to see why they didn't call it. It wasn't exactly blatant...people get away with much worse all year.

Regarding USC, I've never seen a team fall apart more quickly and completely than USC did. Credit UNC for stepping it up, but USC certainly helped them.

Having said that, it did seem like the refs got a little caught up in it all. That illegal screen was a terrible call. I can't blame Tim Floyd for responding like he did.

I don't know if this has already been posted, but this has been the most uneventful tourney that I can remember. Even though there have been some great games, all of the higher seeds have won. All of the regional finals are 1 v. 2, except for Oregon as a 3, and have a number of traditional powers (KU, UCLA, UNC). I predict that these regional finals will be some of the least watched. The casual fan will have no reason to watch, and they are the people who bring in the big ratings and dollars. Go watch the women's tourney, it's much more interesting.

I think you're missing my point. Blocking fouls are called pretty regularly, so to have a blocking foul called with 48 seconds left is no big deal. I'm not sure, but I'd be surprised if the average number of illegal screens called was greater than 1 per game. To call one with 48 seconds left is ridiculous.

I mean, if you're going by the letter of the law, sure, call it. But call all of the others too. Would you feel the same way if they would've slapped a technical on Roy Williams for being out of the coach's box?

Frozen Sooner

no I understand your point, and I think the problem here is that your perception of that being a blatant illegal screen and my perception of the same is vastly different. I've been called for it and I've had it work in my favor when being picked by a moving screen.

Truthfully my view with calling an illegal pick, because that's what it was is on par with calling offensive pass interference in football. I tend to feel that officials are far too lenient with not making that call.

King Crimson
3/24/2007, 01:01 PM
moving screens have become a huge (and pretty iffy) part of the game in the loosey-goosey "pick and rolls" teams run above the high post. Kansas is especially notorious, IMO.

Boy, it sure looked like an illegal screen to me. Why should USC get the benefit of bad officiating just because it's something that doesn't get called that often?

Because UNC probably got the benefit several other times.

Look, if they wanna start calling illegal screens, fine, start calling them. But DON'T start calling them with 48 seconds left in a close game. It's almost as bad as pulling some other rarely called but often abused rule (like the coach's box) out of your pocket with under a minute remaining.

Scott: our perceptions probably are different. Again, it's not that I don't think it was an illegal screen, it's just that I see a lot of OTHER screens that look illegal to me go uncalled all game long and then with 48 seconds left they call one that probably had very little impact on the play anyway.

Again, I'm not furious about it. I had picked UNC and I don't like USC. But I can certainly see where Tim Floyd was coming from when he got ****ed that they called it...correct call or not.

Well, that's always going to be the problem with something that is widely considered to be a judgment call. In those cases it's generally up to the governing body to define how tight something like that should be called. Personally, I'd rather they call both of them a lot more and force players to play the game.
