Highly-rated LB out of Ohio.

Normally we'd have an uphill battle for this kid, but I've got a good feeling we've an in.

He plays at Cardinal Moomey, and his head coach is some guy named Ron Stoops.

:D

"Brandon"
"Yes, Coach?"
"Givin' any thought to where ya' wanna play college ball?"
"Some, Coach. Guess I'll wind up at Notre Dame or BC."
"Fine, but I've got a..errr..connection at this place where the team wears a great color...Crimson, I believe, with a little Cream for balance."
"Wow, Coach! Sounds pretty."
"Pretty???...Hmmmmmmm. Well, anyway, it's in this cool little town with a big town nearby. Ever heard of Norman?"
"Wasn't he the guy that conquered England in 1066?"
"No, that was THE Normans, no relation."
"Oh."
"So, ever heard of Bob Stoops?"
"Sure! Everyone knows who he is. What about him?"
"It seems he and I just happened to be chatting the other day and your name came up."
"Really? ME? Bob Stoops mentioned ME?'
"Yes, dammit, YOU!"
"Gosharootie! Why would he mention me?"
"(Groan) Look, BB, what I'm trying to say is; If The Big Bobbo is interested, are you?"
"Sure I am. But, Coach?...."
"WOT?"
"Is OU a Catholic school?"
"Welllll, errrrrr, yes it is, as a matter of fact."
"Great! 'Cause the Principal, Father Dahmer, and my Momma said I'd go to hell if I played for Protestants."
"I'll get back to you."

Ring...ring...Rinnngggg...

"Okla-By God-Homa Athletics. How may I direct your call, please?"
"My broth...uh, Coach Stoops, please."
"Certainly, Sir. One moment. And a very Boomer Sooner to you and yours."

Buzzzzzzzz...

"Coach, you have a call."
"Stoops here, speak to me."
"Bob, this is Ron."
"Hey, dude, 'sup?"
"You know that statue of that seed-throwing guy you have on campus?"
"Sure, wottabout 'im?"
"How soon can you replace him with a Touchdown Jesus?"
"If we're talking Brandon here, I'll put Joe C. on it. Consider it done. And the Chant already sounds Gregorian."
"Great! Now about that assistant's opening..."
"I'll get back to you on that. Say, how are your Band Directing skills?"

And so, gentle reader, young Brandon's odyssey into immortality begins.

Hey! It COULD happen.

It's Youngstown MOONEY. (if this was not a typo) And Ron Stoops is the D coordinator. I watched their state championship game on the ohio network this year and for some reason i can't remember hearing this guys name a lot. Hmm....

And the Chant already sounds Gregorian

How sad is it that I understood this line and mentally sang the chant then said to myself "Hey, it does sound Gregorian."

On Beachum, in the state championship game he was reported to have 11 tackles, one interception, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. Supposedly he is an instinctive player, always around the ball, and absolutely loves to hit people. Sounds like just the kind of player Venables likes best.

Kind of sounds like the instincts that Rocky Calumus had. He just always seemed to be in the right place at the right time. It would be nice to have another guy like that around.

We've actually offered four kids from Mooney. I know Zordich's kid is one of them.

Mooney is probably the top HS in Ohio right now. Lots of talent on that team.

I didn't realize the Zordich kid was on the Mooney team too. Those guys are loaded with talent. Just need to swing a little of it to Norman over the next year and a half......
