I went to my first gymnastics meet yesterday. For my niece.
It ranks right up there with swim meets for the most boring sporting event. I know that if it had been my child, it would have been better because I would have known and cared about her teammates. And I would have understood the nuances of the performances. As an aunt, I was impressed with her performance.
It was held in one of the ballrooms at the Gaylord Texan Resort - not the best venue as the room was crowded and the seating was meh. We arrive for the levels 5 and 6 to find out it was delayed due to an ankle/foot injury (uneven bar injury - dislocated & possibly broken). Poor girl was taken to the hospital, no parents in site. (How can parents not go?)
However, my niece placed in each event (bar, balance, vault, floor) and came in third for overall with her highest scores ever. Her team came in first overall, which was nice. And she was honored to bring the team trophy home and take it to gym on Monday - apparently this is a huge honor - a first for her.
