8 Cylinder 270 Hp...it's an anti Al Gore vehicle.I think mine has a "V-6", but the new ones have an 8. Does yours seem like it has good power? I ask because when we went to the Rose Bowl and the CU game, I had to floor it at times to get up the mountains in Flagstaff and Colorado.

ok, it looks like they have seriously upgraded their motors, but they are still V-6's though

when i was looking at them they were well under 200HP, with the supercharged versions having 210HP (the Pathfinder had over 250HP)

now it looks like they all come with over 260HP

I drove it to Purcell last weekend and it accelerates really well and has plenty of power. It only gets about 18 mpg though but it's really comfortable.

Okay I called Fentons.

Is a 4 litter V-6 with 261 Horse powers and 281 pounds of tork alot better than what I have which is a 3.0 V-6 with 187 Horse powers and 200 pounds of tork, and will the latter get me up the mountains with ease?

yermom
3/6/2007, 03:25 PM
i'd say that is considerably more power and torque, i can't speak for what you will experience in the mountains, especially with the thinner air in higher elevations

For the freaking love of all things reliable, why would you go plunk good $$ down on another POS jeep? Yeah, the M1A1 WWII jeep was a pretty good POS, but today, you can buy a half-dozen new vehicles that are better vehicles than a jeep. Maybe even a whole dozen. A Toyota 4-Runner. A Nissan X-terra. A Chevy Trailblazer. A GMC whateverthe****they'recalled, a Ford Explorer/Excursion/Excali-mother****in'-bur. A Yugo. A Phugo. A Kia. A Hyundai. About the only thing that jeep is better than is the BMW, Audi, and any other European SUV POS.

Seriously Steve, take that POS straight back to the dealer.

The Inner Harbor RMFO....btw, Iv'e owned a Jeep since 1978 and I've never had a problem with them. The first jeep was a 78 CJ7 lasted me over 10 years till I bought a Jeep Wagoneer, that one lasted me for 11 years tilll I bought a Grand Cherokee and that one lasted me 9 years till I bought this new Commander. So I'm pretty much a Jeep fan..... theyv'e always been VERY reliable for me buddy. :D

Let me know when you have time and I'll drive down to the ranch and show it to you. :D

I won't question the reliability of the older ones - but the newer ones just ain't all that. And it's not so much their reliability - the real issue is with the craftsmanship. Put simply, they're junky. I drive all the new SUVs while I'm on travel, and the worse - by far - is the Jeep Grand Cherokee. Rattle, road noise, all kinds of issues with the fancy stuff (heated seats, rear door windows, etc.). I mean they start and run, but all the little things are junky.

The vehicle I've been most impressed with (other than the Toyota 4-Runner which is tops by far) is the Chevy/GMC Trailblazer/Envoy. Tight, run good, all the goodies work, and they drive very nice. I wouldn't have a problem owning one - if Toyota went out of business or something.

My wife bought a 2006 Jeep Commander. I've never owned a Jeep before. This one will be the last one I own. We've had it back so far for the passenger side window not rolling up and down corrrectly, a pause in the acceleration after you turn a corner, and the "idiot" lights decide to come on, and then mysterioulsy go back off when you take it in to the shop. Actually runs pretty good, and have not had any problems with the powertrain, but just like Dean said, all the goodies seem to be poor craftsmanship when you get it home and start driving it.

I think we will stick with Toyota, Honda, or GMC in the future. Never have owned a Ford, but the bro seems to have had good success with their stuff.
