Holy crap, it's the "Inside-Out" program from The Shawshank Redemption.

Personally I think it's a great idea using the inmates.

i agree... i mean why not make the prisons be revenue sources?

make the inmates learn some kind of work ethic...

Yeah... why not... let them earn their keep...

make them earn their 3 hots and a cot, and cable, internet, etc...

sounds like a better idea than having them work out all the time and be in better crime shape when they get out

You need to be careful about what types of jobs you let the inmates do. If there are companies that provide that service in the private sector I don't think prison crews should be able to compete with them. That's just a basic overview of my opinion.

just let them compete with the illegals ;)

can they? I mean these producers are going to lose money by paying the inmates $.60/day. ;)

well, they have to pay the guards also.

I would imagine they pay the states more then $.60, but the inmates earn less...

And if they ever got short on help, the cops can just go round up some more slave labor... er I mean law breakers..

Actually I believe inmates should be made to pay their way... but this program will need SERIOUS oversight.

Oklahoma doesn't work there inmates? Nebraska has a bunch of random light industry in our prisons for the inmates to work at. License plates, braille books, etc.

So, if the inmates are picking the melons, then the Illegals will have to pick up the slack on the crime end of things? They're going to have to brush up on their skillz. ;-)

"Are we going to pull in inmates to work in the service industry too? You won't have enough inmates — unless you start importing them from Texas."

All that melon handling is just going to drive up sexual assaults in the cells.
