Um, I'm almost certain there's multiple combinations of opinions that can result in being against the war, but also realizing that there's no good that can come from defunding. It's like a dog humping your leg; best to just let him finish.

Seriously, though. Didn't the Dems (in general) run on a platform of "get our troops out"? Don't the Dems (in general) blame Bush for "getting us in this mess"? So what, exactly, is the Dem's plan for "fixing" the situation? Seriously, I hear a lot of sabre-rattling but I've not actually seen any action. At. All. (go on, show a complete lack of imagination by knocking that one out of the park!)

I'm under the impression that it's an attempt to block additional funding for additional troops. If I'm incorrect on that assumption, then you've got a reasonable point. Even so, a reasonable counter-point would be to cut funding and rely on the President to "do the right thing" - which would obviously be to bring troops home rather than leave them under-funded and under-equipped in a combat environment. Sadly, the Dems are too afraid that the plan would back-fire and the public would blame them instead of the President. And while it's possible that the Dems would shoulder some blame, it shows a complete lack of spine to not even try. Compare/contrast with GWB who is "sticking to his guns" no matter what the cost. The Dems want to bitch about how high that cost is, but then don't do a damn thing about it. Which brings us back to the title of this thread.
