OKLAHOMA 9, ST. CLOUD STATE 0

The No. 5-ranked University of Oklahoma® Hockey club finished its regular season schedule by winning its 30th game of the season tonight, shutting out St. Cloud State 9-0 Saturday evening at Blazers Ice Centre in Oklahoma City. Danny Force, Matt Pangrac and Ryan Kenney scored for Oklahoma in the first period to give OU a 3-0 lead after 20 minutes of action. In the second period, Kevin Kennedy scored twice and Justin Hall, Force, Pangrac and Jordan Novak added single markers to give OU a huge 9-0 lead after two periods. There was no scoring in the third period as both teams played out the remainder of the game looking to avoid injury. Adrian Borchgrevink had an assist on Hall’s goal which allowed Borchgrevink to break the OU Hockey single season record for points in a season with 48. The Sooners also broke another OU Hockey record, this one for fastest pair of goals as the goals by Force and Pangrac in the second period were eight seconds apart, breaking the previous record by one second.

Tonight was Senior Night and OU Hockey honored seniors Hal, Force, Kennedy, Michael Gray, John Leighty, Aaron Schmeilski and Tom Schaul as well as honorary OU Hockey team member Michael Smith.

Schmeilski, arguably the best goaltender in the ACHA, started tonight and did not face in shot during his short time in net. His replacement, Schaul, stopped all 15 shots he faced tonight to earn the shutout. St. Cloud State’s Chris Dorscher made 27 saves on 36 shots. OU was 6 for 10 on the power play while St. Cloud was 0 for 6 with the man advantage.

The win improves OU’s record to 30-4-0, adding to OU Hockey’s record for wins in a season, while St. Cloud State drops to 12-17-3. The Sooners now head to Youngstown, Ohio for the ACHA D1 National Championship Tournament which begins this Wednesday. The Sooners are seeded 5th in the tournament and will face the 12th seed, the Blue Hens from the University of Delaware, in a first round game on Wednesday morning at 11:00 EST (10:00 CST).
