has anyone done that for their savings account? I just signed up for it.

I have an ING Orange savings account but thought I would get some free money from BOA in the meantime.

Orange savings account. They give you a sheep at the end of the year?

i thought about doing that. i might once i move... here in a couple weeks. pretty cool idea. i would suspect that you'd forget about it, then all of the sudden, you've got a nice chunk of change in your savings account. just gotta be careful about balancing the checking account if you use your debit card a lot.

I would leave BoA because of their credit to illegals policy. I urge everyone to stop doing business with BoA.

I did it and just got $75.00 in matching from them.

They're not actually doing that. At least according to them.

You mean the media might have got a couple of details wrong and blown something way out of proportion that's not actually an issue? That's un-possible!

Yeah, that article has a lot of quotes from people shouting opinions about the program and relatively few details about the program itself.

they're offering cards to people that don't have a Social Security number or a credit history provided they have maintained an account with Bank of America for three months without overdrafting.

you know who else fits that description? LEGAL immigrants. And foreign nationals that have come to the US to do business for an extended period of time on perfectly legal grounds. and international exchange students. None of those groups would have Social Security numbers or US credit histories.

I would go for it, but I just don't have time to change banks right now. I do need a new place to open my savings account, because the whole $5 i made in interested really just ****ed me off more then anything else.

look at an ING Orange savings account. It pays 4.5% I think. Emigrant.com has a pretty good one too.

The ING account is linked to your current checking account and can be opened over the internet.

I was thinking of that, Washington Mutual had a good rate, 5% with a checking account also. I can also change my savings account type at my current back, but I still don't think they hit 4.5%

does the BofA thingie, round up and deduct the even amount from your checking? at first i thought they gave you the pennies, but if they deduct the even amount from your checking, that's sorta just forced savings. kinda like people who get big tax refunds on purpose...

HSBCdirect. 5.05%

6% on new money.

It's the latter. They just move the money from checking to savings, but they'll match you up to a certain amount. That just seems like it would be a big pain in the *** for me to keep track of.

they're moving my own money from checking to their crappy savings account, paying me 2pointnothing, then loaning it out at 23% to an illegal.

woo-hoo...where do i sign up??

I bank with a bank because of their service. Not their gimmicks.

Yup.

Banking is a commodity. The only real difference is service level and/or convenience.

... and price. :p

(I consider giving lower rates as falling under price. A few tenths of a percent makes a big difference over 20 years.)

If they're only offering it for 3-months, it sure as hell is.

6.0.% is what they're offering for 3 months.

5.05% is the normal rate.

5.05% on a regular savings account? Are you sure?

not sure how you define a "regular savings account". it's a money market account. but, yes, i'm positive. i've had one for a while now. a few more months and I can afford that yukon. :texan:

When I want a yukon I just go kick Bruce's *** and take it. Or dig up a mason jar.

A money market account is not a regular savings account. Money markets are regulation D accounts, which means that there's a limit on the number of preauthorized transactions you can perform each month on them.

Other than that, though, they're a decent instrument for no-risk funds.

On the BoA Keep the Change dealio they match your savings the first year up to $250. Gimmick or not, $250 is $250.

That said, I'm tired of them and as soon as I get my free $250 from them I'm moving my accounts to a local bank here in Ardmore.

I use Bank of America because I know that no matter where in the country I go, there will be a branch there. And since I could wind up damn near anywhere in the next couple of years, it's just easier to leave it there and then change banks whenever I settle somewhere more permanently.

don't move to Colorado and expect to find a BoA.

I like their thing that mails a check to anyone when you want to. That's how I pay my trailer payment, I have it scheduled to write a check for me and mail it.

I use Republic Bank of Norman and McClain Bank in Purcell because I know that no matter where in the country I go, there will be a bank with an ATM there. And since I could wind up damn near anywhere in the next couple of years.....:twinkies:

Don't expect to find one up here, either. Despite having a HUGE base of credit cards up here (due to their exclusive on Alaska Air Miles) they have no branches.

they matched about $50 for me for that 3 months, but i didn't get it til the end of the yearright: "Bank of America matches 100% of your Keep the Change transfers for 3 months after you enroll in the program, and 5% thereafter up to $250 per year. "Keep the Change matching funds are paid annually after the anniversary of your enrollment up to a maximum of $250 if your account remains open and enrolled."

I love the keep the change thing. It's a great way to save up money without it making a noticable difference to your budget.
