King Crimson
2/20/2007, 07:05 PM
not on in Denver, to my knowledge.

i don't like the way we matchup with Mizzou. the way we handle the ball (poorly) and turn it over (a lot) could make for a long night against MU's style.

Maze starting.

tommieharris91
2/20/2007, 07:07 PM

tommieharris91

I love how fans of another team can bus their fans in from 450 or so miles away to one of our home games.

thanks for the updates, I'm stuck at work for a bit here on the west coast :(

Go Sooners!!!

Newbomb Turk
2/20/2007, 07:17 PM
We look a little bit more agressive on defense so far.

Neal shoots another 3 - misses but OU ball out of bounds.

Lob down low to L2, he is fouled on the missed shot.
Makes both from the line.

Mizzou is a really careless team - reminds me of them under Mr. GQ.

L2 rebounds his own miss and scores.

Mizzou is a really careless team - reminds me of them under Mr. GQ.

They are overthrowing passes like crazy. Missing a lot of shots, too.

16-13 OU.

King Crimson
2/20/2007, 07:31 PM
"those are opportunities you have to cash in on"....says Houck for about the 5 or 6th time already.

Newbomb Turk
2/20/2007, 07:31 PM
Offensive foul on Mizzou over the back.

We are really going to the bucket or taking shots early on offense.

Mizzou drives, scores and foul on Griffin.
3-point play.

LittleWingSooner

We have been lucky on several occasions tonight.

We are due for that.

Newbomb Turk
2/20/2007, 07:37 PM
We are strugging just a bit with the full court pressure from mizzou.

Newbomb Turk
2/20/2007, 07:42 PM
AI at 7:00 is looking pretty good right now.

tommieharris91
2/20/2007, 07:43 PM
We can't shoot no more.

LittleWingSooner
2/20/2007, 07:45 PM
Full court press isn't hurting us much. We just can't do anything in the half court the last few minutes.

tommieharris91
2/20/2007, 07:45 PM
I'm hearing lotsa clank from OU. It's like watching a Kelvin sampson offense.

Newbomb Turk
2/20/2007, 07:46 PM
we have to find a way to make them pay for the full court pressure.

seriously - we are a horrible ball handling team.

28-22 MU

LittleWingSooner
2/20/2007, 07:48 PM
I'm hearing lotsa clank from OU. It's like watching a Kelvin sampson offense.

I wish we had a Kelvin Sampson offense. This offense isn't very effecient.

tommieharris91
2/20/2007, 07:49 PM
That doesn't seem to be as bad as missing open looks in the half-court O.

Newbomb Turk
2/20/2007, 07:50 PM
L2 with one from the line.

28-23 MU

SleestakSooner

Urgh! Walker walks... a lot

Newbomb Turk
2/20/2007, 07:52 PM
Well, I'm probably a bad fan, but I'm going to pencil in a loss for us here.

I'm off to watch AI.

tommieharris91
2/20/2007, 07:53 PM
Well, matchup zone ain't workin.

SleestakSooner
2/20/2007, 07:53 PM
man those tigers are fast... I hope the Sooners wear them out soon

Collier11
2/20/2007, 07:53 PM
we are def. soft on the inside and mizzou isnt even that good of a inside team

King Crimson
2/20/2007, 07:54 PM
what is this about a 16 or 17-3 run by MU?

King Crimson
2/20/2007, 07:54 PM
down 11. ****.

SleestakSooner
2/20/2007, 07:55 PM
nice steal and bucket to end the half

tommieharris91
2/20/2007, 07:56 PM
Great finish for OU. Count the lay-up.

35-28 MU halftime.

King Crimson
2/20/2007, 07:56 PM
wow, we sack up a little with 2 buckets......

Collier11
2/20/2007, 07:57 PM
that ended a 22-4 run

KC//CRIMSON
2/20/2007, 07:58 PM
he made that by the hair on his peaches.....

okienole3
2/20/2007, 08:03 PM
We are not a very physical team. We get bumped and lose the ball.

Collier11
2/20/2007, 08:03 PM
So what has happened to T. Griffin? This guy was a beast in HS and he just seems so passive now. Was he just not that good or what, he doesnt give us anything offensively

SleestakSooner
2/20/2007, 08:07 PM
umm he's not in high school anymore?

Collier11
2/20/2007, 08:10 PM
The point is that he is a soph. now and he was a highly recruited guy all around the country. Why is he not progressing? He has a nice shot but wont take it, he can jump and is strong but doesnt give us much rebound wise...whats the deal

King Crimson
2/20/2007, 08:13 PM
Taylor has a flat shot....not sure what kind of legit range he REALLY has. he took two bad shots (selection-wise) against ATM. seems to play out of control to me.

SleestakSooner
2/20/2007, 08:13 PM
it just looks like a lack of confidence and a ton of indecision. he needs a lot of work on fundamentals if you ask me. you are right he should be a rebounding machine

King Crimson
2/20/2007, 08:14 PM
man, if we could anything out of Crocker. 2 quick fouls.....gotta get MU in double bonus for the last 6-7 minutes at home..... ;)

(just in case we get back in this thing..)

Collier11
2/20/2007, 08:15 PM
He has good touch from about 15 feet. And he should be doing alot more inside IMO

SleestakSooner
2/20/2007, 08:15 PM
Neal could be a bit better at using screens, he would have many more open shots.

birddog
2/20/2007, 08:15 PM
kc, youre not getting this one on tv, correct?

SleestakSooner
2/20/2007, 08:16 PM
crazy... wind up with a garbage bucket for Griffin.

King Crimson
2/20/2007, 08:16 PM
there's Taylor! ("OG&E power play of the game")

King Crimson
2/20/2007, 08:17 PM
kc, youre not getting this one on tv, correct?

not on TV here.

Maze is unafraid.

SleestakSooner
2/20/2007, 08:18 PM
OMG that was lucky
Hanna for MU puts Tigers back up by 4

SleestakSooner
2/20/2007, 08:19 PM
Maze is taking it inside and creating stuff... don't know how but OU scores again and it's a two point game. MU timeout

King Crimson
2/20/2007, 08:22 PM
we can't handle success. turn it over everytime we get within 2, or 4 with the ball.

tommieharris91
2/20/2007, 08:23 PM
I'm back from the SO and it is 41-40 MU.

SleestakSooner
2/20/2007, 08:24 PM
Neal makes a big 3 and OU takes the lead
Missouri comes right back and makes a layup

OU 40
MU 41

15:10

Neal at the line for two after the TV timeout

SleestakSooner
2/20/2007, 08:25 PM
Looks like coach made a good adjustment at the half. The guards are pushing the ball inside.

SleestakSooner
2/20/2007, 08:29 PM
Tigers are getting VERY lucky throwing up greatly contested shots inside the lane and the ball just bounces around the rim for a hlaf minute and falls in. Sooners will need to hit all of their free throws and open shots.

King Crimson
2/20/2007, 08:30 PM
Sooners will need to hit all of their free throws .

two misses from Neal already.

Crocker sighting....

SleestakSooner
2/20/2007, 08:30 PM
Crocker nails a 3 and gives OU another one point lead.

Then Griffin fouls Butterball. Non shooting foul.

SleestakSooner
2/20/2007, 08:31 PM
Taylor looks AWFUL trying to dribble down the lane!

birddog
2/20/2007, 08:32 PM

King Crimson
2/20/2007, 08:36 PM
we're gonna have to get some easier looks (and make them) to win this game. MU's gonna be shooting FT's the last 10 minutes.

SleestakSooner
2/20/2007, 08:41 PM
L2 picks up his 4th also

OU down one

SleestakSooner
2/20/2007, 08:42 PM
Nate with a long two puts OU back up with 9 left

King Crimson
2/20/2007, 08:45 PM
6 points on two trips for Mizzou, 2 more fouls for us. MU one foul from double bonus.

SleestakSooner
2/20/2007, 08:55 PM

This is flat out the worst team we will lose to all year. Purdue and Nova were bad teams but this was a new low.

that is incorrect. Nova is a decent team. Mizzou has played pretty well of late and has a chance to finish 5th in the conference and their rpi gives them a MUCH better argument to be in the NCAA then we've had (they prolly won't make it, but still). we DID lose to ISU.

I thought we would win this game easily tonight. And I guess we do win easily if we hit our free throws. But this isn't a game that should have been close. I don't know if we win a game the rest of this year right now.

i'll agree with your final statement. but, we're not even in this game if we aren't unconscious from the 3 line.

I agree there but we shouldn't be shooting 3's like we do. We need to try and make our easy shots. 3's won't win many ball games.

absolutely. if we are trying to make hay with AJ shooting behind the arc.....we are going to lose pretty much every time. and even Godbold. he does some little hustle things but not a guy i want as the go to guy.

well it doesn't help when the refs won't call goaltending...and I'm not blaming this loss on the refs.

Mizzou is not a bad team. They are 17-9. They are young like us and dont have a ton of talent like us but give me a break! They are 22 points(6 more wins) away from being a 23-3 team. They are an average to above average team but def. not a bad team.

that non-goaltending call was bad, I will admit

definitely agree. they are looking at finishing 5th in the league after starting 0-4. there's about a bucket difference in the 4th through 10th place teams in our league.

I just watched the game and I think the refs were very bad, but Neal missed FT and Godbold missed a layup with the score tied, so we could have won although it was amazing the threes they were making. But, I don't think Mizzou is that great a team and I am worried we can easily lose the rest of the games, the offense is just bad unless we can make a bunch of threes and we won't be able to do that every game.

Mizzou is a solid team. They had the height over us, since Longar was in foul trouble, which allowed them to score easily in the paint. Our 3-point shooting was great and it kept us in the game. The refs were horrible! The goal tending call and the missed hack on Griffin which the ref calls Mizzou ball after it "went of his leg" were two calls which would have changed the game. Despite everything else, if we shoot free throws like we normally do, we probably would have won the game.

That turn around jumper with under a minute in the game was an amazing shot. #1, I can't believe a player who did nothing the whole game would dare take that shot and #2, I can't believe it went down.

I didn't see the game, who made this last shot you describe?

Both Hanna and Keon Lawrence should have fouled out of the game with a about 8 minutes to go. I don't know how many times AJ or Neal were bumped dribbling the ball 20 feet from the basket. Griffin was pretty much raped on his shot in the last minute.

We missed our share of foul shots too but we could have spent the last 4-5 minutes of the game on the foul line. Of course we shot 56% from the foul line too. If we are 75% we probably win going away.

It was Keon Lawrence who is a Freshman who was only 1-6 before that shot.

We should have won the game even with the lumps out there swallowing their whistles. We couldn't hit the broadside of a barn, except from 3-point land, and that's partly due to the fact that we don't have anyone really stepping up. Godbold is trying, and Neal does what he can, but Nate seems like he's lost his nuts.

Also, I'm tired of seeing guards get away with humping players with their hands in the air. Hannah almost knocked Neal over with his crotch once, and the ref just sat there. You shouldn't be able to do that 40+ feet from the basket. ALSO. If someone drives an open lane, and people reach in, and he gets slapped around THAT IS A FOUL. CALL IT. BOTH WAYS.

I counted at least twice that Lawrence did that. Once on Neal, once on AJ both times just about knocked him out of bounds when he was dribbling outside the 3-point line and and like you said Hannah plowed Neal. Any of those calls means that they foul out with 8+ minutes to go, or at least are riding the pine until the very end of the game not to mention we are in the bonus or double bonus sooner.

That's not to mention that Lawrence drug his pivot foot about 4-6" on the go ahead shot, that the dunk in the first half the MU player took about 4 steps or Lyons jump stopping in the lane, changing pivot feet and going up for a lay-up.

I'm not saying we didn't have problems of our own that kept us from winning or that I expect to get an equal amount of calls on the road, it seldom works that way. Griffin really struggled. As a team we struggled from the foul line and I thought before the game Carter and Longar would have big games and they really didn't. We gave up too many second chance points and we didn't attack the basket after beating the press nearly as much as we should have.

There is no doubt though that MU got some home cookin' down the stretch.

As long as you are moving laterally, you are allowed to use your body. You cant go through them, but you can "rub" them up and down the court all day(atleast they wont call it). The goaltending and the griffin non-call were bad calls, lawrence didnt travel on that go ahead shot though. If we hit a few more free throws and layups that we missed we win easily. There are going to be missed calls in every game but as far as I can see, there werent any "BAD" calls other than the Goaltending. Everything else is objective

I think you mean subjective...

I have to disagree on Lawrences shot. I DVRed the game and I went back and watched it in slo-mu. His foot moved at least 4-6". I'm not saying that an OU player hasn't gotten away with worse and I do agree it is a judgement call.

I don't mean to sound like a whiny bitch about it but even Sunvold said several calls during the game were bad, and he is an MU guy.

Collier11
2/21/2007, 01:27 PM
ya I was impressed that sunvold was so fair in calling the game. Subjective/objective, I always get those mixed up...whatever! As far as Lawrence's shot goes, I think that almost anyone that does a move like that is going to move their foot a little, but in regular speed I doubt it is noticeable??? The fact of the matter is that in all honesty, Big 12 bball refs have been BAD for several years and they dont seem to be getting any better

Collier11
2/21/2007, 01:28 PM
With the Griffin call though, I only saw one angle and it was impossible to tell if he got hacked or if it was a clean shot to the ball(he he), so I give the refs the benefit of doubt there.

NormanPride
2/21/2007, 02:55 PM
Well, you could take that or any number of calls that didn't go our way. Longar's #4 was pretty weird, Neal getting owned in the lane by a big guy and getting the foul on him, any one of the hacks they laid on our guys down low, 2-3 jump stops, slapping our guys as they drive the lane, etc. etc. The refs "let 'em play" a bit too much on their end.
