View Full Version : Yeah, so, I killed my son's fish this weekend...

I was cleaning out his fish tank, and since it is a small 1.5 gallon tank I decided I'd just carry it to the sink and pour some of the water out. Both fish (and the frog) are on the far side of the tank, so I slowly start pouring out some of the water. Then the blue fish darts for the side of the tank and falls into the sink - and before I can try to catch him he slides right down the drain. :bsmf:

Heh. I did a search for a "bad dad" pic and came up with this:

I may have to use that sometime. :D

been there.

for future reference. if you try to be a good dad and clean the tank. make sure all the bleach is thoroughly rinsed from the tank.

for some strange reason, goldfish don't like bleach.

Well, we haven't used any bleach on this tank, and it said it is very rare that you should have to empty the tank completely to clean the water. It said to empty about 25-50% of the water and refill it. So I was emptying the water when the fish got out and went down the drain. I scooped up the gravel and ran some water over it to get the gravel clean. Then we put a drop of some kind of water clearing upper stuff in there and Monday morning the water was crystal clear. So other than the 1 fish death the tank cleaning went well...:D

So was he there with you? Does he know that good 'ol Dad flushed his pet?

Or did you run to Mega-Lo-Mart and try and get a replacement before he noticed?

He was watching Cars - AGAIN!!! Haven't replaced the fish yet but we were planning on getting another fish and another frog to put in there, so now we'll just have to get 2 more fish and another frog.

The boy is only 18 months old so he isn't going to know the difference anyway. He does like fish though and we have to stop by the little fish area everytime we go to Wal Mart so he can see them. Everytime we go by there he stares and says "fishie...fishie..." :D

And now he's going to stare and say "Stay away from my dad."

Ours have mated and the tank is out of control.

It's a ten gallon tank and there are at least 50 fish in there.

I'm going to have to make a few of them disappear.

But now we have to replace the blue one :D

one fish, two fish
blue fish, dead fish

so, what we've learned from this is that frogs are smarter than blue fish

Osce0la

Frogs are smarter in the sense that they are lazier...The damn frog rarely ever moves unless you bother him. Every once in a while it is like he's hit a crack pipe and he just goes crazy swimming all over the tank, but about 90% of the time he just sits on the bottom of the tank...

Who's to say the fish is actually dead...I mean...???

Maybe he "escaped" and is the smarter one.

that's because the frog has gone insane from being plucked from his natural habitat and confined to a 1x1 cage for months on end. i hope you sleep well at night.

You do know those are guppies?;)

I know they are guppies...the boy likes them so those are what we got. I am planning on getting a larger aquarium eventually and getting some decent fish in that one. This one is just for him because he loves the fish...

did you run the water in the drain for awhile to give the little bastard a fighting chance?

Why do you hate guppies?:(
Actually, guppies are decent fish, you want to go big time order from folks like this guy.

Then you can join this group

and start showing your fish. The hard part is getting the leash on them.
