I believe they have snow removal equipment that can be best described as a cousin to the big silage choppers they run in big dairy and feedlot country, rather than a plowing action.

so....what is going to happen if it warms up and all this stuff thaws out real fast? 11 feet of snow would equal about a foot of water, right?

I think that much snow prevents it from melting too fast cause snow cover will holds temps down. Think about how long it takes the big piles of snow to melt in mall parking lots. Then put that everywhere.

But global warming causes huge snow falls. Didn't you guys see that Dennis Quaid movie?

That looks like my driveway. ;)

Actually, New Yorkers have my permission to complain about snowfall.

Normally yes, but in lake effect snow events you can often get snow ratios of much greater than 10:1 such as 30:1 to 50:1.

As a side, global warming could actually increase lake effect snow if you consider lake temps would be greater than avg. Once you do get cold air over the lake, then you have greater instability -> more snow. Note that I don't believe you can blame this on global warming. They've had events in the past there they got 100+in in less than a week.

Ya, I read about that as well. They said something to the effect that if we cover the sky with pollution the sun wouldn't be able to get through. LOL. Same old panic, just a different temperature. :)

I'm not big on meteorologists, they never get the weather right.

I'm more worried about a giant astroid hitting the planet more than global warming, which is to say I'm not worried at all.

I ain't too worried about global warming. Mother Earth reboots about once every thousand or so years. The last mega-event that actually resulted in a net loss to the Earth's population were the bubonic/black plagues episodes during the medieval period ("bring out your dead" and all that stuff.) Before that, the Ice Age.

Of course, in between, we typically have these scary pandemics that kill millions, but the worldwide birthrate makes up for it in a couple of months. Last one of those was that enormous flu epidemic during the WWI years. Of course, AIDS is doing a pretty good job of rebooting sub-Saharan Africa. Maybe they'll be regional dealios from here on out. Maybe not. Anyhoo...

We're due

how can you not like a little warm weather. I'm burning tires in my backyard and spraying hairspray right at the ozone. When I get done with that I'm starting a fag thread.

The excessive snow is due to the mini ice age of the 70's which interacted with acid rain. The result is global warming which obviously has caused the excessive snow.

Oh and SARS too.
