Wayne and my boy in the music section at Barnes and Noble.

I chatted him up a bit. He also mentioned the Lips might be playing Tulsa in June.

ROAD TRIP!

:pop:

Viking Kitten

Oh yeah... and my boy started singing the "The Yeah Yeah Yeah Song" to Wayne, and Wayne started singing it along with him. I believe that makes me the only Mommy on the board whose son has performed with Wayne.

SO SUCK IT!

Guess it's time to post a pic of my mc chris poster from his show at the Conservatory a couple years back that's signed by both mc and Wayne. ;)

I've got a "Rock the Fock" t-shirt signed by Wayne.

So they still reside in OKC?

So they still reside in OKC?

YEs, they have yet to be enlightened enough to pack up and head east 90 miles on the Turner Turnpike

Rogue
2/17/2007, 10:44 PM
They'll be Here... (http://bonnaroo.com/) in June. Y'all come on up to Tennessee, camp in the mud, and see some live music.

Dammit!

YEs, they have yet to be enlightened enough to pack up and head east 90 miles on the Turner Turnpike

Well. 2/3 of them, at least. I guess our crack neighborhoods aren't quite as inspiring as OKC's. Probaby all the hills and trees. :D

I thought that Michael lives in Kentucky and Steven lives in upstate NY?

bri
2/19/2007, 02:49 PM
I stand corrected. Make that 1/3 of them.

SUCK IT, OKC!!!! :D

BigRedJed
2/19/2007, 03:10 PM
Steven moved back to OKC some time back. I had a beer with him a couple of weeks ago. Michael still lives in Cincinnati these days, I think. Cincy is right across the border from Kentucky, and he did live there for a while. I think there's a family connection with his wife there.

I don't think Wayne is going anywhere anytime soon (read: ever), trees or no trees. He's too tied in with his family.

SUCK IT, EVERYBODY WHO'S NOT IN OKC!!

bri
2/19/2007, 03:15 PM
I stand re-corrected. Make that 2/3 again.

If only you guys had some hills or something, you could have held that third one in. :D

BigRedJed
2/19/2007, 03:20 PM
Michael still makes it back quite a bit. In the past 6 months or so I ran into him at Target and at Flips, chatting with him for a few minutes both times. At no time did I fear that he would drag me back to his cave, boil my head in oil and eat it.

bri
2/19/2007, 03:57 PM
If only he could say the same, dude.

Never. Gets. Old. :D

Take that, tulsey!

Their music still makes me want to poke out my eardrums, but that's pretty cool.

This is just another example of how one should raise their kiddos. VK and Czar you should be mighty proud of your little one, might proud.

He told us the truth. (Though the month was off.) Flaming Lips to play Diversafest Tulsa, (http://www.dfest.com/) July 27-28.

bri
2/28/2007, 05:32 PM
And all of a sudden, D-Fest is worth going to for once. :D

NormanPride

In! Maybe. Depends on if I'm in town then. Who would I meet there?

For starters, about half the WAYLT thread-poster-inners. :D

Leon Russell is also headling DFest. Pretty big step up for them.

BigRedJed

DFest is run, in part, by someone at the Lips' management company. That probably was a pretty easy one to put together once they decided to do it.

D-Fest schedule is out. Lips play the main festival stage at 11:00 Friday night.

Friday schedule (http://www.dfest.com/fridayschedule07.htm)

Saturday schedule (http://www.dfest.com/saturdayschedule07.htm)

Bands I'm looking forward to seeing:
The Lips
Shiny Toy Guns
mc chris
Travis Kidd
Brandon Clark
John Moreland & The Black Gold Band
The Starlight Mints

And of course, a big "thank you" to the festival organizers for having the Steve Liddell Band playing in one of the club venues at the same time The Lips will be on the main stage. Jackasses.

DON'T FORGET EL PASO HOT BUTTON! He will rock your face of.

We are missing Ryan's 10 year reunion to go to DFest this year. I have a management meeting at Grand Lake on Friday (rough I know), but we are going to go the lips that night. Rhino has press passes because he is the shiznit so hopefully I will get to see wayne.

Rhino

John Moreland & The Black Gold Band (http://www.myspace.com/blackgoldband) They're fantastic.

My other recommendations for DFest are: P.D.A. (http://www.myspace.com/pdaonline), Kunek (http://www.myspace.com/kunek), El Paso Hot Button (http://www.myspace.com/ephb), Dorian Small (http://www.myspace.com/doriansmall), The Hero Factor (http://www.theherofactor.com/), Forty Minutes of Hell (http://www.myspace.com/fortyminutesofhell), Christopher Wray Quartet (http://www.myspace.com/christopherwrayquartet) & The Rounders (http://www.the-rounders.com/)

And of course, a big "thank you" to the festival organizers for having the Steve Liddell Band playing in one of the club venues at the same time The Lips will be on the main stage. Jackasses. We were talking on my board about how ridiculous that was that ANYONE is playing opposite the Lips.

I am totally going this year! :D

Yeah, The Hero Factor is the other casualty of the schedule for me. It was a choice between seeing them or the Mints, and I figure I can see THF anytime.

sounds like fun, i'm so out of touch on the OKC/Norman scene.

name of the festival could be better, but hey. when i was in mid-high school we thought cover bands like Phil and the Blanks and Jimmy Swat didn't suck altogether.

it got better after that with def, the lips, and the SST and Austin bands coming up--Surfers, scratch acid, doctor's mob, some national shows in OKC and Norman--replacements, REM, etcc.... but it was bad then. Jimmy Swat was actually kind of OK. the guy who fronted them liked Captain Beefheart.

And as an aside, that clip at the end of the post reminded me...I f*ckin' hated Suede.

I was really looking forward to seeing JFJO, it had been a while for me, but MC Chris wins that battle easily.

All in all it should be a really awesome weekend.

Why the f*ck are all the KC shows I want to see ALWAYS on a Wednesday? What the hell kind of "major market" are you guys running up there? ;)

I've been spending a lot of time in and around the Blue Dome District the past couple of weeks...starting to get seriously giddy about this.

I've been spending a lot of time in and around the Blue Dome District the past couple of weeks...starting to get seriously giddy about this.

Where is the best place to hang out in the Blue Dome District? I went to "Jewel," a.k.a. Suede 2.0, last weekend and it was super lame. Too many bitches from high school were there.

bri
7/18/2007, 09:18 AM
Oh my god, you went to Jewel? I'm so, so sorry.

If you like electronic music, the absolute best club in Oklahoma is Templ. They're on 2nd Street, just east of Elgin. Look for the big square building with no sign and huge ornate doors. Straight across the parking lot from there is McNellie's Pub, which is made of win and awesome, as is Arnie's Pub (also at 2nd and Elgin, next to the actual Blue Dome Building). If you want something besides awesome pub food, try El Guapo's at 1st and Elgin. They just opened, so I haven't tried the food yet...but they have a rooftop cantina with an awesome view of downtown.

Oh, wait, I forgot....you're aggy. Just go to Dirty's Tavern (across the street from Arnie's and enjoy a Coors Light or whatever it is you "people" do. ;)

Coors Light? Some of us have standards! ;)

Actually, there is a bar in Stillwater called Dirty's. I don't think they are affiliated, but they both have booths made out of plywood.

bri
7/18/2007, 09:46 AM
Actually, they are; the same guy owns both of them.

And I'm wicked p*ssed that I actually have to go there to see my friend Travis Kidd play during D-Fest. :D
