I have searched everywhere and cannot find the wo-loss record for OU's men (or for that matter women) at Lloyd Noble Center.Does anyone know?I'm curious how we stack up against the other Big12 teams in their gyms. Any help on this subject is appreciated, thanks.

When we used to turn up the heat real high- we won like 40 straight I believe.

I would assume we stack up pretty good...

88.5% in the last 20 years of the LNC- not counting this year- somewhere in this range....

From January 2001 to March 4, 2003, the OU men did not lose a single home game. The 37-game home winning streak was the longest in the nation and one of the longest in school history. On the flip side, the Sooner women won 23 straight at home from January 2001 to December 2002.

It's a decent place, tough for most teams to beat us here. But it is the fans that make a court great. And our fans don't show up for a lot of games.

eh, I'll continue this tomorrow

Here are some of the other Big XII teams...

Oklahoma State - Gallagher-Iba Arena (1938) - 618-182 (77%)
Missouri - Mizzou Arena (2004) - 38-14 (73%)
Kansas - Phog Allen Fieldhouse (1955) - 593-106 (85%)
Kansas State - Fred Bramlage Coliseum (1988) - 211-81 (72%)
Colorado - Coors Events Center (1979) - 271-127 (68%)
Iowa State - Hilton Coliseum (1971) - k, most pathetic media guide ever for a good arena
Nebraska - Bob Devaney Sports Center (1976) - 352-113 (75%)
Texas Tech - United Spirit Arena (1998)
Texas A&M - Reed Arena (1998) - 73-47 (61%)
Texas - Frank Erwin Special Events Center (1977)
Baylor - Ferrell Center (1988)

I know it probably wont happen, atleast for a while but I want a new arena. I know we pumped all kinds of money into the arena for improvements but I dont think it was worth it. Ideally we should have it on campus but there is little room for that. what I would like to see is a new arena(strictly bball, not multi-purpose) built on campus, perhaps behind the duck pond if there is any room over there that holds around 10k and built like a field house. What say you???

Well I got ambitious and here it is,OU is 408-68 .857.Ramsey was 8-4 in his 1season in the LNC(.667).Bliss 42-15(.737),Tubbs 182-26(.875),Sampson 164-22(.882),Capel 12-1(.923).Bear in mind that all the math is mine and may not be100% accurate but I did my best. How does this stack up with the Devaney,Coors,Hilton,Bramlge,Erwin,Allen etc. in terms of winning percenyage?Anyone?

QApparently OSU Aggie was busy while I was doing my math. The answer to my question is LNC matches up very well record -wise with EVERYONE IN THE BIG 12.By my math and the partial list of winning percentages we have LNC is #1.Not meaning any disrespect but I doubt UT,TT,BU or ISU have better records in their buildings.UT has only joined the big boys in baketball the last 7 years or so and the rest have spotty basketball history.

Out of those we don't have the numbers for, ISU is the only one that stands a chance. The Cyclones have always as far back as I can recall been very tough to beat in Hilton.

OSUAggie

eh, I doubt ISU is anything great... they just have a lot of upsets there. Their all-time basketball record is somewhere a bit below .500, so unless they're just incredibly horrible all-time on the road and completely unbeatable at home (which is definitely not the case), it's nowhere near LNC's record.

The math appears to indicate that OU and the LNC equate to the best homecourt win % in the conference.. Although many would agree that it certainly isn't the best venue in the conference (maybe not even top-5), it definitely has proved to be a homecourt advantage. This might be aided by the fact that OU hasn't really had any "down" years during the building's tenure.

We've had down years. Billy Ball had a losing season in year1 (iirc)....the last few years in the Tubbs era we didn't make the tourney....Sampson had an NIT year too.

We had a really impressive home winning streak in the late '80s and early '90s. Duke snapped it in '91 I think....the year they upset UNLV and Coach K won his first title.

What a great stat, though. Visiting teams have more success at the Phog or Ghallager-Iba than the LNC....

I bet we have it in football too. ;)

I have a really hard time believing that we have a better record at the LNC than KU has at Phog.

In football, it is between 3 teams really.

OU,
Texas, and
Nebraska

We are probably a little better than the other 2 mentioned schools.

I have a really hard time believing that we have a better record at the LNC than KU has at Phog.Shocks me too Mike. The main reason for the high winning percentage is that OUr two all-time winningest coaches(Tubbs,Sampson) have coached the majority of OUr games in LNC.Even so I am AMAZED that the LNC is apparently #1 in homecourt advantage in the Big12.If ANYONE cares to doublecheck my research and math, feel free to do so.I can only vouch for the OU numbers.

k... maybe I wasn't clear enough... There aren't really any down periods of basketball.. Even though Billy didn't make the tourney a couple of times, that doesn't mean that OU wasn't good to great at home during those times.. Look back @ OSU basketball history between Iba and Sutton, or even Iba's latter years.... those are down years. When we're bad, we're really bad. When you're bad, you're still decent.

Going into the final homegame vs.Missou OU is now 421-73, for an .852 winning %.Capel ended last year 12-3 and is 13-3 this year, not too shabby.

With the win over Missou,Capel is 14-3 this year at LNC,26-6 in his first 2 years(.813),OU is 422-73 .853

The run during the Tubbs era was bookended by losses to K-State at the end of the 86-87 season and to Duke in December 90. Don't remember the exact number of the winning streak, but it approached 50.

What made the streak impressive was partially the visits of UNLV, Pitt, Loyola Marymount (during their halcyon years) etc. to LNC during that time but also the conference home winning streak. In 88 the Big 8 put 6 teams in the tourney, 3 in the Elite 8, and 2 in the finals. KU, MU, ISU, and KSU all had strong programs in those days and there were some really fine players throughout the league.

Tubbs on the mic, Taylor looking good, the heat turned up, the crazy student section, Eddie Hightower, Norm Stewart, Mookie, Stacey, Sieger, Harvey, T-Love, Cheese, Jackie, Smokey, Terry, Damon, Kermit (Sherlock), Tony, Skeeter, The Creator, The Helicopter, Hardware, and of course SKIIIIIIII!!!!

Ah yess - those were the days.

To Joe C.'s credit, they did let people down in the lower level today. Of course, they waited until the last game of the season to allow it, but it's the thought that counts? Hopefully they keep doing that.

Apparently my math is a little off, according to the Oklahoman OU is 428-72 .856 in LNC.The victory over G-W was OU's 500th game in LNC.
