As a long-time Jeff Gordan fan, I was happy to see he would be starting on the second row after winning the second 150. Then I saw that he (along with seemingly every other driver/owner) didn't pass post race inspection, and will be relegated to the back row. I still think he should finish strong, but I think he won't win.

I guess Tony Stewart will be the odds on favorite, and as much as I can't stand him, he'll probably win.

The Daytona 500 is a better race when Ward Burton's in it. I'm a sad gas can this weekend.

I'm thinking Junior wins.

And gains that much more leverage against his step-mom.

And I'm hoping the 24 doesn't get caught up in a wreck trying to work his way to the front.

Kenseth is going to take it. I have feeling that this is his year.

does anyone know what kind of engines are being used by toyota; & where do they obtain these engines.

royalfan5
2/18/2007, 03:03 PM
Toyota Racing Development designed a 350ci (5.7) small block pushrod V8 that is similar to the V-8 small blocks used by the other teams. TRD supplies motors to all of the Toyota teams except Bill Davis who builds their own Toyota motors off that design under the supervision of Terry Elledge.

I want a Ford to win, but as far as drivers go I get pumped to watch Tony Stewart because he's always causing shish. I wouldn't mind seeing Jr. winning either.

That kinda sucks that the old putz Dale Jarrett switched from Ford to Toyota, I always kinda pulled for him.

Well, it's hard to blame him for taking the 20 mill he was guaranteed especially as RYR was imploding last year.

Not if he keeps scraping the wall.

SleestakSooner
2/18/2007, 04:43 PM
Looks like those scrapes might be helping, Gordon up to 17th! I too am a long time Jeff Gordon fan. Newman and Stewart both need about twenty flat tires.

Keep me updated here guys, I am stuck volunteering at the library and can't watch the race.

ESPN RacingLive is showing Gordon as being 12th now

royalfan5
2/18/2007, 04:45 PM
Well that series of pit stops was a cluster. I wonder what the debris from the 45 that the 20 hit did to it. Plus it sucks to see Kyle have more bad luck at Daytona. He has the worst luck here.

SleestakSooner
2/18/2007, 04:48 PM
dang did Gordon just have an awful pit stop or what? He went back down to 18th :(

did he really say that? I had to step out of the room for a few minutes, but it looked like Stewart was loose before Busch hit him.

So is Busch saying he had time not to get into the back of Tony?

Newbomb Turk
2/18/2007, 06:02 PM
at this point, I like Kenseth or Kyle Busch to win.

pulling for the ARMY car though.

SleestakSooner

Looked to me like Kurt lost traction and rode up into the side of Stewart.

If Jeff Gordon can't come back and win this I sure hope Mark Martin wins! That fellow is a class act.

Nice to see Nascar had it's thumb firmly planted up it's *** while all hell was breaking loose.

They preach rules enforcement to it's teams, but can't be depended upon to enforce it's own rules when the chips are down in a race.

With all due respect to Kevin Harvick, that trophy should be Mark Martin's.

I disagree, I am glad NASCAR let them race to the line, they were wrecking behind them, and it's a big track so space for the lead cars isn't a concern.

looks like the 29 was ahead of the 01 even at the time of the original 'spin/wreck'
or maybe Gordon Riese was checking the replay ;)

Umm, the wreck had not occurred, yet. And that's when Nascar would have and should have thrown a caution.

Anyway, I've said my piece. Others have as well.

Onto Fontana next week.

It was fun.

The yellow flag topic has been hashed and rehashed all week on NASCAR radio on Sirius.

THe whole situation reminds me of the Oregon game. I went to that, too. At the game, there was hardly any talk at all about the unholy call from doomsville. But, when we got back here, life had stopped as we knew it. Same with the race. Not much was said until you got away from the racetrack.

There was no conspiracy. Nascar did the right thing.

I don't think there was a conspiracy.

But if you're a driver in the back of that pack and cars are wrecking around you and you hear that a caution has yet to be thrown, are you going to slow down?

And is that necessarily safe?

And from one Jeff Gordon fan to another, nice pics, Boarder. :D

Thy said during the truck race that the rule is if the leaders are in sight of the finish line they let them go and then throw the caution as soon as they hit the finish.

From what they said, they threw the caution as soon as some of the cars started going back across the track and Harvick would have been in front.

Trust me, it's been hashed and rehashed a ton this week. ALL week.

It got most people off of Mikey for a little while, though. hehe
