View Full Version : Well Wishes Can't Hurt..

I generally try to keep all of my home life stuff away from the boards, and dabble in dealing with any other issues that can be considered distractions. At this point in time, my wife's father has been in the hospital for awhile, mainly pneumonia related after it was learned last year that his throat cancer had come back after being in remission for over a decade. He's recently had a setback, and has gotten renal failure added to his list of problems, however his pneumonia has turned into a respiratory infection. To add to this, he's also diabetic, which I think is semi-strange for someone who is 6'2 and when he went into the hospital weighing 132 lbs. On the last update we got from the nurses there, he is back on his feeding tube (he had a reaction to an antibiotic and is down to 115.5 lbs), and is conscious a fair bit, however is non responsive to even yes or no questions. However, his situation as of right now, he's not getting worse. So, I guess in essence I'm sorta asking if you prayering type of folks could send a prayer or two his way it'd be appreciated.

In other news, matters involving my mother in law (whom lives with us). Her medical situations haven't gotten worse, and in some aspects (eyes) have gotten better with the things she's been willing to undergo. So, it's nice that there is a bit of a bright spot.

Well to be honest, the family he has around them (in Vegas) aren't exactly the best people to have around. The 2 sons that live out there are for the most part useless. His 3 remaining children by my mother in law (the one that lives with us), one lives in Orlando, one is stationed in the Army in Wisconsin, and my wife. Their other sister was killed by a drunk driver in Vegas back in the late 90s after finally putting her life back together. I really don't know how much contact his siblings out there have had in terms of going to see him or anything. And the only thing that i know for sure is that none of them really know anything about what is going on. We're getting more and better information from the nurses and whatnot living in Michigan and Wisconsin.

another update, his white blood cell count is up (good thing provided it's fighting the infection), also his awareness level has increased and when his wife spoke to him earlier this evening he held her hand.

Haven't got anything new to report on matters which I think is a good thing. Last night the crazy daughter called and was in an absolute panic. My wife gets to deal with her on the phone tonight. Moral of that story is don't leave a crazy daughter at home by herself because her husband is out of town on a business trip and tell her that her dad may be dying because she just...can't...handle...it.

Today's update: After being made a little nervous by the doctor's assessment (in comparison to nursing assessments which are based on a day to day rather than overall picture), we got news that he's now back to communicating with others by writing. His first note to them was "My stomach is hurting." so while things aren't great, they are still improving.

Newest Update: He's been released from the hospital to a rehabilitation facility. The pneumonia and other infection are gone, and he's back on his original liquid diet. Thanks again everyone, he's not out of the woods yet, but the situation is better.
