I look forward to the day when Ted Kennedy, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Charlie Rangel, Joe Biden, Dick Durbin, Bill Clinton, Jesse Jackson, etc. get a whole lot better than they really are.

At Yalta, and later Potsdam, Joe Stalin insisted on owning Poland in post-war Europe. He understood that every western European-based attack of Russia had always used Poland as a corridor of attack.

Kinda funny that the beginning of the end for the Warsaw Pact and the Evil Empire started in the Gdansk shipyards by some fed-up longshoreman led by a rabble-rouser named Lech.

Pope John Paul II doesn't get enough credit for what happened in Poland though.

To think such a conflict could come to an end in such a way. Truly the work of the Lord.

Kinda made amends for the Church's abstention from doing anything material to slow or stop the rise of fascism in the 30's and 40's.

Yes, he does. Go read "The President, The Pope, and The Prime Minister." It's a book about the roles of Reagan, John Paul II, and Thatcher in the fall of Eastern Bloc. In fact, the author of that book gives the Pope probably too much credit.

Lech Walesa, Vaclav Havel, and defectors/expellees like Alexander Solzhenitsyn were more instrumental in the fall of the Eastern bloc than JP II. Solzhenitsyn thought Jimmy Carter and his ilk (liberals in America and Western Europe) were extremely naive about what was going on behind the iron curtain.

I'd rather see a statue of this bean.
