My wife and I are going to go to check out Riverwind Saturday, thought we'd stay in Norman overnight since we don't have the kids. Which one's are still good? I really haven't been to Norman much recently, so I don't know where to stay. Ideas?

Beano's house has roots and stuff.

Peem Dean. He'll tell you where to stay.
If you wanna do the Mrs and a romantic dealio, stay at the Montford Inn. It will cost more than any other, but it's nice.

The bed and breakfast near the public library is nice, but I don't recall the name and couldn't tell ya what they charge.

You forgot somewhat normal relationship that isn't riddled with co-dependency.

Sooner Legends is good.

I put my best man in that hotel for the wedding...he's from Ohio...and he thought it was the best hotel he ever stayed in.

He hasn't been to the Bellagio yet.

Well, it really is 15 minutes if you count the 13.5 minutes of uncontrolled sobbing.

Wait a bit longer and you can stay at the new destination resort the Creek Nation is building on the site of the old Fountainhead state park. That baby is gonna be sweet and every room will have a view of the lake. Play games, go upstairs and play with each other, go play games some more. Lather, rinse repeat. That's the future of gaming in Oklahoma IMHO. Soon, those stand alone casinos without attached hotels are going to go the way of the cheezy bingo hall.

What happened to Fountainhead?

Both Riverwind and FireLake have hotels in their plans. They just wanted to get up and running with the taking whiteys money, first. :texan:

The Muscogee (Creek) Nation bought it from the state.

This may be one of those "No Sh** Sherlock" moments, but I predict tribal gaming is only just getting started in Oklahoma. Within ten years, the tribes will surpass state government as the largest employer in Oklahoma -- right now, they are in second place.

The coolest notion floating around these days is the concept of a multi-casino destination within our state (a-la Vegas) with several gaming hotels in a single area. All they need is a to agree on a couple hundred acres or so of trust property on which several tribes could each build a single casino and combine to build a high end retail center with some bigtime anchor stores.

yeah, good luck with THAT. the tribes can't even work together well internally and in my experience the leadership of most of these tribes are not only fiercely competitive with the other tribes leaders but also bitter towards them.

I see resort style casino's popping up on all the major highways right inside the OK border, a couple of more big ones around the Metro areas, a lot of the little one's around the metro going out of business and a bunch of little tent structures in the sticks for the hayseeds.

Did you guys know that they're getting to drop $300mil on a new building at Thackerville (the one on the way to Dallas)?

I'm picturing Lack Chaz, LA, NOT Vegas.

There are some trying to get as many as 3 casino/hotels on the bank of the Oklahoma River. I would assume if they were to go in this area, they would be of the Harrah's/Isle of Capri type place, rather than tribal gaming.

...doubt it will happen, though.
