Mike Reed (http://www.soonersports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=300&ATCLID=787304)
Inside linebacker
6'4", 245 lbs., 4.5
Vero Beach, FL > Marysville (CA) Yuba C.C.

Earliest recruit. Hard-hitter. Projected starter at MLB next year.

• Rivals.com Junior College Top 100 2007 (2)

In 2006, Reed was Defensive MVP of the Conference, as well as earning All-State Honors. In 2005, he received All-Conference honors. Recorded 78 tackles (37 solo), 1.5 sacks, 6 TFL, 1 FF his sophomore year at Yuba.

Quotables:

"He's our best guy by far," Yuba defensive coordinator Tomas Rodriguez said. "We were sending out some highlight tapes of Mike, and we got a lot of great response. It didn't take Oklahoma too long after they got the tape to get on him and offer him. There are going to be a lot of disappointed coaches call over the next few weeks to find out that Mike's already off the board.

"He's definitely the type of player you see playing at Oklahoma. He is Oklahoma good."

"He has great speed for his size," Rodriguez said of Reed, who has a 4.5-second time in the 40-yard dash.

"We went down to Fresno State to work with their coaches this spring and they saw film on him and fell in love with him right away. He just blows up everything. Somebody comes across his face and he destroys it." Other schools considered:

A lot of people feel bad for him. It's just part of the recruiting process, especially with the way OSU and OU treat in-state kids. As long as OU can still get pretty much any kid they want in-state, this will never change. His case was just magnified since he was in Norman and obviously had a ton of pressure on him to go with the hometown team. I hope he does well and is able to see the field a lot in the future.

I won't admit this to anybody else, but a kid should go where he will be happiest. If other teams appreciate our local kids more, that is our problem. I am glad Broyles is staying in Norman, but sometimes a Wes Welker fulfills himself better elsewhere since he would have gotten fewer touches here.

Box. I don't know where on the field (maybe at Roy), but the kid looks super-athletic on film and he's got great instincts on defense. He finds the ball and attacks it. I think he sees the field as a true freshman. Maybe he won't start, but he'll play.

Nichol might be the man at QB, though it's too early to tell.

It was a wild Signing Day for San Antonio, Texas four star linebacker Travis Lewis. Lewis had originally committed to Nebraska, but recently switched to Oklahoma. The 6-foot-1, 213-pounder is ranked the No. 37 player in Texas and is ranked No. 20 among outside linebackers.

Thanks for all the profiles, Rhino! It's always neat to get a better look at who'll be wearing the Crimson and Cream in Fall. :)

Jimmy Stevens, K, 5-6, 170
Corey Wilson, WR, 6-0, 185
Sam Proctor, DB, 6-1, 200
Jason Hannan, OL, 6-3, 270
Donald Stephenson, OL, 6-6, 275
Alex Williams, OL, 6-5, 300
Tyler Stradford, WR, 6-3, 180
Jamell Fleming, DB, 5-11, 187
Jontae Bumpus, DE, 6-4, 220
David Anderson, DE, 6-5, 220
Londell Taylor, DB/WR, 6-2, 215
Desmond Jackson, DB, 5-11, 187
Ryan Broyles, WR, 5-11, 170
Travis Lewis, LB, 6-2, 220
Frank Alexander, DE, 6-3, 241
Keith Nichol, QB, 6-1, 180
Austin Box, LB, 6-3, 215
Mike Reed, LB, 6-3, 250
Kody Cooke, OL, 6-4, 298
Phil Loadholt, OL, 6-9, 325

Of this class, I think Loadholt and Reed are going to start (unless someone else steps up, which is entirely possible). Nichol and the DEs have a good shot at playing this year, but my guess is the rest redshirt.

Man, if we can get our special teams(return) problems fixed and find a good qb we could be looking forward to a GREAT year. We are soooo young its scary. How many seniors do we even lose next year?
d.Pleasant-may not even start this year but a contributor
dj.Wolfe-same as pleasant
Lewis baker- same as above
m.Cohen-starter
s.Coleman-in the two deep
a.Dotson-in the two deep
jj.finley-starter sorta
gute-probably not much pt this year
g.hartley-big loss but steven should be good?
s.moore-two deep
a.patrick-stud but we are deep at rb
m. walker-starter
d. williams-starter
d. zaslaw-some pt

So at the most we will lose 13 of our top 44 players unless someone like kelly or reggie smith goes pro!!! And we lose zero starters on o-line

If I were a football player, I'd be a bit self-conscious about playing for the kittens, regardless of the reason behind the monniker.

Frank Alexander is going to be a great player. I live in LA and I watched his team play my high school team in the playoffs. He was HUGE and was the most dominent player on the field including his 5 star teammate, Chad Jones. I think he had about 4 sacks in that game and also made a spectacular touchdown run as a tight end.

Hey, I think OU has a great class. Started slow, but ended up in the top 15. Average stars is great...not everyone can have 28 schollys to give every year. For a 20 player class, Stoops did good. ****es me off, but I have to give props where props are due. STILL ****ed that USC can sign the #1 AND #2 running backs in the SAME class....6 ***** stars....unreal, to do this every year.

I'm sure that's a misprint, 3 years ago I maxed out at 315 and I'm not that big a guy

A guy who is 6'9" has a bit of a disadvantage due to a longer repitition distance (arm length). A 6'9" HS senior with a bench press of 315 isn't shabby.

I'm 6'0" and have done a big bench like that myself, and i don't bench often.

HS Senior? The guy looks like a 30-year old man-mountain who's been playing in the NFL for the last 8 years. He's a JUCO, but still.

And I think the guy has the wingspan of a Condor, so the 'distance to press the weight' comment is probably merited. 315 ain't bad for 'the Busters', but I'm pretty sure Schmitty will have him pushing close to 400 by the end of the spring.

I didn't realize he was a JUCO. Yeah, Schmitty will definitely help the guy out with some direction in the gym, like all of the players.

6'2", 220 lbs., 4.34
a 4.34 40-yard dash ... benches 335 and squats 515 pounds

Is it just me or does this kid look to be the strongest pound for pound guy we recruited???

A 220 lb. LB/RB/what ever he plays that has his strength and speed!! Cant wait to see this kid suit up!!!!

OT and no one cares, but how's this for you:

I have a buddy who grew up in small-town Eastern Illinois, his high school was the Hoopiston (sp? I don't know) Corn Jerkers. Seriously, I've seen his yearbook. Only one worse, he would say, was the nearby Totopless (sp? again) Wooden Shoes. Seriously. Dutch community, obviously, but they actually call themselves the "Wooden Shoes." I can't make this stuff up . . . .

Two colleges come to mind, with mystifying names: The Delaware Blue Hens, and the Indiana State Sycamores

Anybody have any comments on the character of this signing class? High school coaches are all positive - but I'm still smarting over Bomar and Moe Dampeer. I'd rather see a kid that will work hard than a 5-star buster.
Enjoyed the 2006 team because they knew they had to over achieve. 2005 thought they could throw their helmets on the field and Baylor and TCU would faint.

I'm a tad concerned about Stephenson, but the coaches seem to think that what went on with him isn't a big deal.

I know the town you're talking about...Ohio State basketball coach Thad Matta is from there haha.

I'm sure that's a misprint, 3 years ago I maxed out at 315 and I'm not that big a guy

I love when people lie about how much they can bench...it's funny:)

Don't know why we didn't get more looks from stud qb's. I mean Oklahoma with a wide open spot. Hope Nichol is the next coming but you're risking a couple of seasons if it doesn't pan out. We need more.

We got into the game REALLY late for the top QBs and still got a really good one. Remember, we weren't planning on taking a QB this year until Bomar hosed us.

We're reportedly leading for a big stud out of NM and we're in the hunt for Luck out of Texas, who's going to be a five-star guy.

whats the story on Stephenson? He and two other kids were charged with breaking into a couple cars outside a movie theatre back in December.

For the record, I'm concerned about Stephenson also.

Worst high school nicknames I've heard were both up here.

The Angels. Gah. Who does THAT intimidate other than Egyptians?

The Halfbreeds. Simply because WTF?

This is college, but what about the Arkansas Tech "Wonder Boys"? That is intimidating.....

I can't remember which thread it was (maybe this one) but someone said that Mike Reed was 26 years old.

According to this he was born in 1984. Now call me crazy, but I was born in 82 and I'm definitely not 26!
