I have an idea, why not just label them as "not right in the haid," (like Boo Radley in To Kill a Mockingbird) and leave it at that?;)

well, it's not the label that's difficult ;)

well, it's not the label that's difficult ;)

Look, some people have an aversion to crowds. Some people are afraid to leave their homes. Some people are afraid of spiders. Some people prefer chocolate to vanilla. What's to understand? There's no explaining it, it just is. Heck, when I was a little Homey, I used to just about crap myself everytime the tornado sirens blew. I grew out of it, but some don't.
Sheesh.;)

Heh. She's more wondering how people with that specific condition react to various situations.

I would imagine if someone has that crowd aversion dealio, if you put them in a crowd, they'd panic and run away. Or collapse into a quivering mass of protoplasm. Either way, it would be fun to watch.

depends on the type of crowd for some people. Their reactions would vary as well, some people may do as you suggest and either run away or collapse into a quivering mass of protoplasm as you so eloquently put. Others may experience a panic attack in the form of hyperventilation, or a feeling of overheating. Then you may also have another group of people whom could be diagnosed with any of those issues, but can stave off the feeling of panic enough to function relatively normal in those types of situations. It really depends upon the level of discomfort the person feels in the varying situations.

Scott D is right. Agoraphobia wouldn't make for a very good script filler. Less'n you have a dood that won't leave the dressing room in mind.

Read Steve Martin's "The Pleasure Of My Company". It's not bad and the main character basically has a co-occurring case of OCD and social anxiety (pretty common combo).

So far, I'd say PEEM Scott D for a serious answer.

Edit: And I'd ask for advice from a counselor-type like a psychologist or a clinical social worker for this type of question. Unless you wanna know which anti-anxiety meds work best. ;)

I've read that book--and love it. I don't want to make him an agoraphobic, but i want to make sure that i have him actually doing things that are accurate to someone with social anxiety disorder and not agoraphobia or xenophobia.
