I just checked and the back-to-back thing has only happened 3 other times.

1922/1923 - Same chick from Ohio won back-to-back. You can't win more than once these days
1935/1936 - PA
1959/1960 - MS

2006/2007 - OKLAHOMA!!!!!!!!

I still get into this because my mom worked at the Miss Oklahoma Pageant the whole time I was growing up. She was Miss Oklahoma's chaperone from like 1982 thru 1993. So when I was in high school, I had Miss Oklahomas sleeping in the bedroom across the hall. It was heaven and hell all at once. My buddies dropped by a lot more often when they knew we had one of the babes staying over for the night.

Oklahoma, texass (skipped Looseyanna) Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia.

BTW, looks like "big hair" is back, of course, for my Aunt Tillie, it never left.

Please be advised of this salient fact. Most everybody says they share your preference for a woman who looks hawt with no make-up. Here's what's wrong with that line of thinking.

Most well-bred southern wimmen (and I'm including Arkansas, texass and Oklahoma in my definition for purposes of this illustration) wouldn't even go to QT for a cup of coffee w/out their make-up. Many wouldn't go to their mailbox at the end of the driveway w/out make-up. In short, early in their lives, they perfect their technique and are capable of getting made-up in no time flat. (Please note, I said "capable," not that they always do get made-up quickly.)

Therefore, when these well-bred wimmens get a bit older and start "needing" make-up (as all wimmen invariably do) they are way ahead of the game and don't look like some bizarro experiment at the department store make-up research lab.

You're welcome.;)

MISS OKLAHOMA WINS THE 2007 MISS AMERICA PAGEANT

Las Vegas, NV – January 29, 2007 – Miss Oklahoma Lauren Nelson from Lawton, Oklahoma was crowned Miss America 2007 tonight at the Aladdin, soon to be Planet Hollywood, Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. The Miss America 2007 final night of competition was broadcast live from Las Vegas, on CMT.

Nelson’s walk across the stage marked her first steps on a journey that will take her from spotlight to spotlight, coast to coast, traveling approximately 20,000 miles each month during her upcoming year of service. This year the Miss America Organization has chosen the Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) as its National Platform. Miss America 2007 will be the official National Goodwill Ambassador for Children’s Miracle Network as she raises funds and awareness for CMN and the Miss America Organization.

Nelson, age 20, is a student at the University of Central Oklahoma. Her personal platform issue is Be NetSmart – Protecting Kids Online. Her scholastic ambition is to obtain a Master’s Degree in Musical Theatre and her career ambition is to become a Broadway performer. With the title, Nelson won a $50,000 scholarship to continue her education. She was crowned Miss America during the final night of competition, which aired live from Las Vegas on CMT. Nelson sang “You’ll Be in My Heart” as her talent selection for the evening.

The first runner-up was Miss Texas Shilah Phillips, of Plano, Texas who earned a $25,000 scholarship after singing, “I Believe in You and Me,” as her talent. Phillips hopes to become a professional recording artist and her personal platform was Never Give Up.

Second runner-up honors and a $15,000 award went to Miss Georgia Amanda Kozak of Warner Robins, Georgia, who performed a Tap Dance to “Baby I’m A Star.”

The Miss Congeniality Award was handed out, going to Miss Alabama Melinda Toole. The Miss Congeniality Award is given to the contestant who is most liked and respected by her peers. In September, while in Los Angeles filming the CMT special Pageant School: Becoming Miss America, the 52 contestants voted for Miss Congeniality. On January 26, the top three contestants were announced during the premiere of Pageant School and America got to vote for the winner, who was announced live at the 2007 Miss America Pageant. Toole will receive a $2,000 scholarship.

As the world's largest provider of scholarship assistance for young women and one of the nation's leading achievement programs, The Miss America Organization last year made available more than $45 million in cash and tuition scholarship assistance.

The Miss America Organization provides young women with a vehicle to further their personal and professional goals and instills a spirit of community service through a variety of unique nationwide community-based programs.

Shontel Smith, 1996. She was from my neck of the woods (Muldrow area). A friend of the family in fact. During HS she worked at the Buckle in the mall at Ft. Smith. My brother spent ALL of his money there, just to see her. He tried and tried to date her, but she wouldn't give him the time of day. heh

Surely, you aren't saying the Miss America pageant is an anachronism... a tired, worn out throwback which perpetuates a stereotype which is neither relevant nor accurate in 21st Century society are you?

Surely, you aren't saying that this piece of Americana should go the way of the hula hoop and poodle dog skirt and be relegated to the slagheap of inept and shattered dreams where alleged style predominates over substance?

Surely, you aren't saying the Miss America pageant epitomizes society today where people are judged NOT on their substantive merit and intellect, but upon their looks, perceived style and talent which appeals mostly to the uninformed and uncultured?

oh wait.. maybe you are! :D

Yeah, I'd probably type the same thing if my gal sucked hind tit like the Texas gal did.

In all honesty, I think beauty pageants are one of the most ****ed up things we do in this society. When I see a 5-year old girl all made up like a hooker and her obsessive/whacked out/wannabe skin-tight polyester wearing mom with cellulite dimples dotting her thighs pushing her into beauty contests it makes me think "child abuse." And what kind of chick thinks "you know what, I'm so ****ing hot I think I'll become Miss Universe." To even run in one of these contests a girl has to be so full of herself who'd want to be around her? Besides, when you turn them upside down, they all look like your sister anyhow...

It certainly has a downside. And I'm also disturbed when I see little girls being pushed into this stuff. However, this particular pageant gives millions of dollars each year in scholarship money to contestants and winners. I personally know of several who would not have been able to complete their education (particularly graduate degrees) without it.

So. They don't need it.

If they really want to do some good, they ought to have an Ugly Chicks Pageant to give them a head start on earning a living because they aren't going to be able to catch a husband with their toof and sparkling personality.

It's not a beauty pageant, it's a scholarship contest. Get it right. We all know that how well a woman fills out her bathing suit has a great deal to do with her future success.

There was a national beauty contest held in Tulsa last summer when my family was there for a wedding. The pageant was held at the Southern Hills Hilton where we were staying. It included all ages from ankle biters to high school. Every single one of them seemed to have won some kind of trophy by the time it was done. I think they had trophies for everything from "best personality" to "best job of making your 4 year old daughter look like a hooker."

Actually, it's obvious it was a big scam and a great money maker for the contest organizers.

I dated a pageant girl once. It was pretty fun corrupting her.

The reason the finalists are typically Southern wimmen is because Southern wimmen/their parents are the only people that give two ****s about pageants. The Miss America Pageant, as opposed to the Miss USA/Miss Universe/Miss Whatever, is actually based on substance more than "beauty", although beauty helps sway how substantial one's substance might be.

The actual pageant girls aren't really all that bad, but the people that surround them are complete tools. That is, their parents, hairdressers, workout people, parents, friends' parents, nail people, tanning people, and their parents are the most awful humans alive... at least for the most part. They're pushy people that care not about the well-being of their daughter, but instead wish to live vicariously (generally moreso than an athlete's parent) through their offspring.

Although, the ex's parents may or may not have accused me of raping her (she told me to bite her), so I may be biased.
