My best friend just called. His son was in a horrible car wreck in Tuscaloosa last night and is hospitalized in Birmingham. There's talk of a brain hemorrhage and he's already had one surgery. They are now enroute from their home on the Florida gulf coast near Destin to Tuscaloosa.

His son Kyle, who has been like a nephew to Mrs Homey and me, plays rugby for Auburn and was enroute to Ole Miss for a match. They were overnighting in Tuscaloosa enroute to Oxford for today's match.

And yes, knowing Kyle and rugby players in general, I suspect alcohol played a role in the wreck...although that has not yet been confirmed.

Keep your fingers crossed for the kid and his family. He's an Okie by birth having been born in Enid where his dad was an IP at Vance AFB in 1988.

It looks bad. The boy (19) has got a broken neck and other broken bones as well as a a "nickel-size" hole in his face that runs all the way to his sinus cavity. He was ejected thru the windshield. It doesn't appear alcohol was involved, but a passenger has died.

Making matter worse, as he fights for his life, the AL state police have been by to Mirandize him and seek a statement. "Involuntary manslaughter" I suspect.

Blessedly, his dad intervened and wouldn't let Kyle say anything.

I'm beside myself for my friend. This has got to be pure Hell.

Praying for Kyle's quick and complete recovery, peace for his family and yours, wisdom and skill for the doctors, comfort for the other young man's family.

Thanks to all my homies. I just wish I could put my arse in the road and go to Tuscaloosa to be with my bud in his hour of need. At least, I've found them a good lawyer thru my contacts in Alabama.

you know - I don't know a whole hell of a lot about the law, and I suppose the police are just doing their job. But it really ****es me off to think that if that were my son, laying there fighting for his life, that this has to happen. If it is true, that alcohol was not involved, and it was an accident...accidents happen.

I feel for the family of the young man that lost his life.

I will pray for your friend's family.
