They're "Young Adult" but I think they'll appeal to both of you.

Check into the trilogy that starts with Uglies by Scott Westerfeld.

Kind of reads like Brett Easton Ellis Lite with a sci-fi twist.

Huh. I'll keep it in mind next time I have a chance to stop and read. ;)

Thanks!

You can have GHP read it to you.

is this how you treat everyone who gives you Animaniacs cds?

(checks list of everyone who's ever given me an Animaniacs CD)

Yes.

Believe it or not, I thought GHP would enjoy these books more than you would. Not sure why. By all means, go pick them up.

well in that case, I forgive you. I thought you were just being a butthead ;)

btw--have you ever read the Earthsea trillogy by Ursula K. Le Guin?

earthsea is so 1993 :)

I haven't. I keep meaning to get around to them, but for whatever reason when I'm at the bookstore my eyes just glaze over when I pass by the Ls.

hehe--I read them in high school (on recommendation from my favorite teacher ever) and really enjoyed them. They did that Earthsea miniseries on scifi a few years back, but it didn't stick to the books very well and it wasn't very good at all.

hehe--and I actually just found an article by Le Guin called "HOW THE SCI-FI CHANNEL WRECKED MY BOOKS"

I watched about 5 minutes of the miniseries before deciding it sucked.

The books are a good read, but not an easy read.

I probably wouldn't have liked 'em anyway. :(

Mike,

I found a copy of Uglies at Half-Price Books and have been reading it. You're right - it's very good, very similar to Logan's Run, but with a neat twist. I'm about 2/3 of the way through so far.

I'll have to start looking for the sequels.

Awesome. Glad you like it. Just watch-the argot they speak in the book will seep into your everyday language.

Don't worry, I'm unlikely to let that happen because I'm a crumbly.

:D exactly.
