Sooner Fans,

I am embarking on a mission to try and make the Sooners the most completely covered team on the wikipedia (the online encyclopedia). I can't do it alone. I have already begun with the following three wikis. You can add to these or direct your attention to the ones that need it even more. It might help to use the ones I've already done as a frame of reference for your entries:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stephen_Alexander
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kelly_Gregg
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rickey_Dixon

I'm by no means the expert. Others have worked on some of the more notable players, as well.

The OU Players website is here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Oklahoma_Sooners_football_players

If we put our talents together, we can create a great database of OU Football for everyone to access. Wiki stands for What I Know Is. There is a ton of knowledge on the soonerfans board. Anybody that starts working these can post here with questions or completed projects. I think all of us would like to see the Sooners looking strong on wikipedia.

Is plagiarism allowed? I can copy/paste a few articles.

Plagiarism is not allowed. Wikipedia takes their copyright stuff very seriously. They require original content from users (register on the website -- it's easy), so at least rearrange the wording before you post. If you are putting articles in, just add them to the 'External Links' part of the page.

They made me take down the Rickey Dixon page twice (there was none at the time), because I was borrowing so liberally from other sites. I rewrote it from scratch, and it stuck.

If you post pictures, you have to tag them with the releasability (under copyright law). I wouldn't recommend it. I am trying to wade through the legalese of it right now.

I hope some Sooner fans get on here. We can really make the OU project special. The Ohio State fans have already done a good job on the site.

You can also contact the copyright holders and get their permission to put their stuff on there. I think I will go ahead and add a little something myself in a bit.

If people would only use their time wisely like DS and boast OU instead of dogging on other teams, then we wouldn't be hated by so many.

Please don't do this. Wikipedia is supposed to be a site for neutral representation of information. Doing stuff like that helps no one.

Go take a look at the OSU cowboy's wiki, I added a few things to the football section. It's not bad stuff but it will surely **** some pokes off. :D

I'm working on this piece right now. Some of the guys are missing off there, but I will try as I can to get it right. I was sick of not knowing who was where. Now it can get updated.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Oklahoma_Sooners_in_the_National_Football _League

In the process, I also did this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Hawkins_%28football_player%29

Hawk could have been truly great. His INT for a TD against UTEP was greatness.

I hope everybody gets a chance to contribute to making the Sooners a force to be reckoned with on Wikipedia.

You are more than welcome to start your own website saying whatever you like about whomever. Wikipedia has standards that they try to enforce on their website, which they own.

Free speech is not abridged by someone who owns a website monitoring the content on that website any more than free speech is abridged by a publisher refusing to publish a book with no literary merit.

Wikipedia is a website meant to present objective articles on subjects of public interest. I'm pretty sure my right to read a neutral, balanced and fair article on OSU trumps your right to defame their character by vandalizing an open (though privately owned) website read by millions everyday.

Also, Wikipedia is an de facto international website. This 'right of Free speech' is an American concept that extends exactly as far as the borders go, no further. I don't know what you've done to their article as I have no particular interest to read an article on OSU at the moment, but they are a lot more serious and sensitive about hate-speech over here where I'm living at for example. A LOT more serious and sensitive.

I recently updated this page:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lee_Roy_Selmon

created this one:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucious_Selmon

And the Lucious page needs some serious work from anybody that has any desire to work it.

We still need help from anybody and everybody in giving our former players the fan treatment.

Thanks to all for your help.

Yes, Jason came in against Texas when Hybl got knocked around in the 2nd quarter...finished the Texas game, started against Kansas and Baylor (threw for 4 TDs against Kansas), and I think Jason went out in the 2nd quarter against Nebraska.

For all those interested in improving Wikipedia's coverage of the University of Oklahoma, I have created a "Project" on Wikipedia that brings together like minded people to improve articles. If anybody wishes to join, please visit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_University_of_Oklahoma. If you wish to contribute, please read the "How can I contribute to this project?" section and visit the links also. You forgot Jake Sills. He started a few games for Blake.

I'm going from memory here, and I really blocked most of the '90s out. Any idea when Sills started? I sort of remember, but not really. '97, maybe? I had forgotten Terence Brown, too, but he's on there now. He started the '94 Copper Bowl when Garrick McGee was sick. Geez we had a ton of starters in the '90s.

Bob Boyd started at QB some in the late 50s. Jack Sills also started a few games. I'm sure there were about 3 other QBs under Blake. Aikman started a couple of games in 84. I know he started at least 1 but I can't remember if he started any others.

LittleWingSooner
3/9/2007, 10:30 AM
Dave Wallace started some in 1946. There was a battle between Mitchell and Wallace which Mitchell eventually won. Royal would start at QB in 1948 and Mitchell was moved to halfback.

How about the starting running backs OU has had?

2006 Peterson, Patrick, Brown
2005 Gutierrez, Peterson, maybe Jones for a game or two.
2004 Peterson, and Jones
2003 Works, Jones
2002 Q
2001 Q
2000 Q and Renaldo for the NC game.
1999 Thornton, Q, and there may have been one other.
1998 Parker
1997 Parker
1996 Parker, Allen
1995 Allen, Moore

That's as far as I can remember.
