No, she was not the starter last season.

Both point guards are a mixed bag of strenghths and weaknesses. Neither is a truly complete player. Sherri uses them as the situation demands. Brown starts because she (normally) is less turnover prone and feeds the post better than Kendra. That hasn't necessarily been the case this year, so Kendra has played more lately.

Our PGs also carry an additional defensive burden of having to make up for our lack of quickness on the wings. Both PGs are decent but not great defensive players, so sometimes things can look a little ugly out there. Thompson and Stevenson need to step it up immediately so Sherri feels more comfortable with one of them playing the wing when we play quick perimeter teams, rather than us having to play both PGs on defense, or worse, having to play Jenna and a point defensively.

Jenna's looked pretty good on D, IMO. I was afraid she'd get lost out there with the lack of size.

Sherri hasn't yet put Jenna in a tough defensive situation. Since she is a sub, and doesn't play a lot of minutes, people don't gameplan for her. However, she is hugely suceptible to being posted up, and defending backdoor cuts. The post up problem is obvious. The back-cut problem is just as bad, because no matter how perfectly she defends, the pass can always be out of her reach, but in the reach of the cutter. Kansas State did this to Jenna, and the player missed the easy layup. Sherri took Jenna out immediately after that play.

Yeah, that's why I hope we get another great PG in the next class. Jenna can't ever be a starter if she can't overcome those types of deficiencies.

If she had started and played a lot of minutes Monday night who's to say that she wouldn't have the energy to pull out what she did at the end of the game. She's one part of great working machine operated by Coach Coale.
