NO. 4 OKLAHOMA TRAVELS TO NO. 6 IOWA STATE
SOONERS TAKE ON CYCLONES IN BIG XII TILT

THIS WEEK’S GAMES - The University of Oklahoma® hockey club (23-3-0) return to action this weekend with a pair of games against No. 6 Iowa State Cyclones (21-8-1). The game against the Cyclones on Friday, January 26th will be played in Ames, Iowa at the Ames/ISU Ice Arena at 7:30 PM. The Oklahoma/Iowa State game on Saturday, January 27th will be played at the Well Fargo Arena in Des Moines, Iowa at 3:30 PM. The Saturday game will be followed by a game between the Iowa Stars (the AHL affiliate of the NHL Dallas Stars) and the Chicago Wolves (NHL Atlanta Thrashers affiliate) at 7:30 PM.

LAST WEEK’S OU HOCKEY GAMES – Oklahoma did not play this past weekend. The Sooners last played two weeks ago hosted when they split a home series with Weber State.

RANKINGS – The Sooners are currently ranked 4th in the most recent ACHA Coaches Division 1 ranking which was released last Friday. The next ACHA D1 ranking is scheduled to be released on Friday, February 2nd.

OU HOCKEY’S INTERNATIONAL FORCE – Senior defenseman Danny Force is one of 22 players selected for the 2007 United States University Select Team which is competing at the Winter World University Games in Torino, Italy. Force, a 6’0”, 215 lb. broadcasting major from Southlake, Texas has 10 goals and 6 assists in 20 games for the Sooners so far this season. The 2007 U.S. University Select Team is coached by Chad Cassel, head coach of The University of Illinois hockey club. Team USA has lost three games in Torino so far, losing 5-0 to Canada, 3-2 to Slovakia and 5-2 earlier today to Russia. Team USA concludes round robin play tomorrow against Korea and will begin the elimination round of the Winter World University Games on Wednesday. Force will miss the upcoming series against Iowa State as a result of his being in Torino.

SCOUTING THE CYCLONES – Iowa State’s head coach, Alan Murdoch, is also in Torino with the U.S. University Select Team as Team USA’s Scouting Coordinator. In Coach Murdoch’s absence, the Cyclones are being coached by Brian Wilkie, former head coach at Minot State and North Dakota State. Iowa State played at No. 1 Illinois this past weekend and ended up losing both games, 3-2 and 3-0. Iowa State is led in scoring by forward Jayson Peterson, who has 23 goals and 16 assists for a total of 39 points in thirty games this season. Peterson is followed in scoring by Jason Brown (8-28-36), Mike Murtaugh (17-18-35), Peter Majkozak (23-10-33) and Allen Raushel (14-15-29). Majkozak (accumulated game disqualification penalties) and Raushel (Team USA in Torino) will miss this weekend’s series against the Sooners. Goaltenders Trent Baker (4.14 GAA) and Christian Johansson (2.93 GAA) are Iowa State’s top netminders.

PRACTICE SCHEDULE – The Sooners practice this week at the Blazers Ice Centre on Monday and Wednesday from 4:30-6:00 P.M. and Tuesday from 8:45-10:30 P.M.
