Jan. 20, 2006 (CBS News)— Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., has announced that she is forming an exploratory committee for president, thereby launching a bid to become the first female chief executive of the United States.

"I'm in," she said on a Web site, hillaryclinton.com. "And I'm in to win.

"As a senator, I will spend two years doing everything in my power to limit the damage George W. Bush can do," Clinton's statement added. "But only a new president will be able to undo Bush's mistakes and restore our hope and optimism."

While the timing of the news was a closely guarded secret, the announcement itself is not all together surprising. The junior senator from New York has been considering a presidential run for months.

Hillary is very popular with "the party faithful" - especially NE and liberal democrats. Hillary is the Senator essentially representing Manhattan NYC which is probably the only district in the U.S. she could have won for the Senate.

Hillary while loved by a few is hated by many. She would galvanize the center and the right to come out and vote against her. Her negative ratings are too high for her to stand a chance in a general election - and in my opinion within the Democratic party itself.

I think we'll have a female President within the next 20-30 years. Just not Hillary.

The "progressive" retreatist/defeatist liberals will never stand seeing her being nominated, simply for the sin of supporting her country while it is at war.

Think Joe Liberman last year. Its really to bad they didn't keep their promise and move to Canada. Oh well, maybe next time.

As for the GOP, it really needs a centrist with strong fiscal conservative roots and proven leadership.

I had an experience with an incompetent, lazy, uncaring medical doctor last year. I'd hate to live in a country where I was stuck with him and had no choice.
