vote.

there are lots of choices for a poll, so I am going to only mention 7, because that is my arbitrary number of choice.

Field of Dreams and Sandlot for the same reason.

That everyone is a kid and just wants to go out and play the game.

Field of Dreams captured a great deal of what baseball really is all about.

Plus James Earl Jones kicks A$$!

See, I'm in disagreement about field of dreams. I just never really bought into the "destroy your livelihood to commune with your dead father, oh, and shoeless joe too" bit of it. Not saying it wasn't well done, but I didn't think it was top shelf material.

The Natural and the Sandlot though....those got to me.

And Major League (the first one) was comedy gold.

I voted 8 men out but liked Sandlot, too.
The worst baseball movie has to be the most recent Babe Ruth Story followed by the original.
Worst baseball acting in a move about baseball was that non-coordinated dork Gary Cooper playing Lou Gehrig.
OK, too much info, I know, but I just took my meds.

Oh there have been far worse than 'Pride of the Yankees'.

Rookie of the Year and Angels in the Outfield both made me want to vomit.
Nearly every baseball movie sequel, John Goodman as Babe Ruth, and Summer Catch are a few that come to mind.

I thought about including that one, because I agree...it was great.

The problem is that there are a large number of really great baseball movies...and you can't please everyone.

I voted for the original Major League. Although I also love The Natural, Field of Dreams and Bull Durham.

And no love for The Rookie? What gives?

DAAA Bull Durham. It is one of the 1st baseball movies I ever saw.

"He hit the ****ing bull...guy gets a free steak dinner!"

Major League never fails to crack me up.

"Vagisil, Bartol, Bengay....anyone of em will add 2 to 3 inches on your curve ball. If I am not feeling it I will rub alittle jalapeno under my nose and get it running, then I load the ball up."

"You put snot on the baseball?"

I never liked Field of Dreams. For some reason I always felt it was somewhat pompus in it's depiction of baseball. I just never bought JEJ's dialouge on the bleachers, it felt forced to me.

I actually liked "For Love of the Game" much more.

But I voted for the Natural.

How can Bull Durham even be on this list? Make no mistake, Bull Durham is a CHICK FLICK cleverly disguised as a baseball movie.

Not to mention, it's an insult to every baseball fans intelligence that Tim Robbins can throw a 93 mph fastball. The guy throws like a girl!!!

I liked the Rookie, field of Dreams and the Sandlot but yes *61 should be included on the list.
Thomas Jane did a pretty good job of playing Mantle.

Bad News Bears, Long Gone, and 61 should be on the list.

A League of Their Own was pretty darn good too.

Don't disagree that some of Field of Dreams was forced, but it still captured the importance and essance of baseball better than any other movie.

I liked A League of their Own too. And in third place, The Rookie.

I absolutely hated The Natural. First of all, Robert was too old to play the part. Second, after the third or fourth thing that happened to him, I started to wonder if they were going to kill him with a lightening bolt as he stood at the plate. I saw that movie in the theater and hated it so much that I vowed to never see it again.

Does The Dream Team count as a baseball movie? Cause that movie rules like none other.

Thomas Jane? You must mean Todd Parker, Boogie Nights. Playing the Mick. Cool. ;)

I voted "Field of Dreams" because the movie seemed to capture an almost "child like" appreciation about what baseball means - or meant - to fathers and their sons.

Da-anngggggg. I didn't even think about that. In that case, I second that vote for The Dream Team as a baseball movie, especially when the fat guy (Flounder from Animal House) was mimicking Phil Rizzuto.

I hadn't seen that movie in ages. Wasn't Teller (of Penn and Teller) in that movie as one of the owners of the team?

Now Cobb was a hell of a movie!
I hope in my old age I can be as ornery as Tommy Lee Jones was portraying Cobb in that movie.
