27 year old software engineer...so he must be smart, right?

He's the worst (but funniest) one I've ever seen.

Thanks for the laughs, kiddo. And thanks to your co-workers for putting you up to it.

WOW, Red is, well, just WOW. I'm thinking that the thread about the WSJ and 50% are below average IQ was way off, or Seattle is just full of those bringing the curve down

I hate that show. My bride says I'm the only person in the US that won't watch it. I think most of those people are making idiots of themselves just to get on TV. They do a good job at it too.

I find it hard to believe that people that bad, don't know they're that bad.

In either case, there are a boat load of ignorant people in this world. And no, I'm not talking about the people on the show. I'm talking about you people watching them. :P

Did anyone else notice that when he was first introduced he had on a navy polo, but when we get to the "Dontcha" medley towards the end, he's back on there, but this time with a gray polo?! So they let him in twice?

So, does anyone think Simon goes too far with some of his comments?

jk the sooner fan
1/18/2007, 09:27 AM
no, i dont......i mean....not all of the contestants in line make it in front of the troika.....so they are purposely putting the freaks on the show for effect....because thats what the viewers want to watch, and the freaks being pushed in there know exactly what they've signed up for

Hot Rod

They people who deserve it the most are the ones who say:

"I've had 10 years of vocal experience" or
"I have a range like Mariah Carey" or
"Soul Patrol...wooo!"

My favorite part was the Forrest Gump quote at the end:

"That's all I'm gonna say about that".

i thought it was funny when the computer guy said he'd have to review the tapes to see whether or not he'd audition again

Simon: "What the bloody hell was that?"

Computer Guy: "....that was me."

I liked when the guy came out and Ryan Gaycrest just sat there with his arms crossed, mimicking the kid, and said nothing.

true, the key to knowing you're good (get a golden ticket) is when she smiles while you're singing.

yeah, some of his insults are unnecessary. i think he can say what he wants about their singing but man, calling some poor sap a monkey, lemur, whatever he was driving at, on national tv? i couldn't help but to feel for the kid.

good thing it wasn't an a.a., the whole show mighta been cancelled.

sometimes they get a little mean... most of the time he's being brutally honest, but it's justified.

But sometimes he restrains the meanness and just says sorry, it's not good enough. I mean, if he didn't ever do that to any of them, I'd say yeah, he goes too far. But I think since they aren't showing everything that goes on, I think the editing is what makes it look like a lot of the insults are unwarranted.

Plus, this is what, season 6? People have seen the show. They know what kind of things he says. They're going into this aware and willing.

another reason why its scripted.....at the end of the show, they've got the freaks on stage singing a prince song, or whatever........that isnt in front of he judges......so they've brought them all back on to another stage AFTER they've been insulted and had their "meltdown" and then they sing again? i know alot of them are socially retarded, but they know whats going on

proud gonzo
1/19/2007, 12:15 PM
I think is like their pre-screening to get to the big judges. They probably have everybody sing a couple designated songs for a preliminary judge. They have what 12,000-15,000 people show up at each city? I guarantee randy, paula, and simon don't listen to every single one of them.

I think they don't realize they're not just being screened for talent, but for entertainment value. That's how they're picking the ones with the interesting background stories or the good personalities (or the bad).

i posted in the other thread, msnbc.com interviewed a gal who auditioned......while in line, they brought the freaks out of the line to the front.....those trying to seriously audition went in front of a single judge, 3 contestants at a time, and had 15 seconds to sing, to be told to go home or move on.....

I know they pick out the freaks (i mean, they are ultimately trying to make entertaining tv and draw viewers) and I also find it hard to believe the "freaks" don't know what's going on. I just have problems with applying the word "scripted".

jk the sooner fan
1/19/2007, 01:50 PM
ok, perhaps the freaks dont know its scripted, and i'm not saying that there's no element of improv on the part of the participating freaks.......but if they are being purposely paraded in front of 3 "professional judges" who then go thru all sorts of gyrations about how much they despise the lack of talent they are seeing...........THATS SCRIPTED

just my opinion

jk the sooner fan

perhaps i'm using "scripted" figuratively, rather than literally

proud gonzo
1/19/2007, 02:09 PM
perhaps i'm using "scripted" figuratively, rather than literallyright. to me "scripted" means that a writer has written everything the judges and contestants say on the show, and I don't think that's what you mean when you use that word.
