The main screen on my phone is broken (something wrong with the LCD, the whole screen is solid black). I took it to Verizon and they said it isn't eligible for an upgrade until October, and the warranty expired about 3 weeks ago. So, in order to get a new phone right now I would have to pay at least $120 (full retail on the cheapest phone they had in the store). I'm not very happy with them right now either. I can't access anything on my phone (phonebook, text messaging, etc...) because I can't see anything on the screen...Apparently there is no way for them to fix this in the store either...bastages.

PM me your address. I have a Nokia something or another camera phone from Verizon that I don't use any more. It's about a year old or maybe a tad older. I'll find it and the charger and ship it off to you.

I hate Verizon. I have a ding on my credit because of them. Long story but they really screwed me.

it is actually an Audiovox (I don't know why I said Motorola - I guess because my old phone was a motorola)...I am looking on Ebay right now to try and find one pretty cheap. If I can find a better one that isn't too much I may just get a different phone and have everything transferred onto the new one...

FiOS has been fine for me. I can't complain about their customer service, but I really haven't used it yet either.

here's the dealio.....2 saturdays ago, i called and ordered an HD box.....and to return two of the standard boxes i currently have....before making that order, i was on hold for one hour and 38 minutes.....ok so i'm told they'll be here today between 830 and 12.......and i write down the order #.

about 1215 i call to find out where they are.......they dont have any record of my order

so i get transferred to dispatch....i ask to speak to a supervisor "ok they'll call you back"......fine......2 hours later, i'm on the phone......their voice recognition dealio takes "yes" and translates it to "collections".......i go off on her, she cant help obviously so she transfers me to customer service.......but not the FIOS, the "copper" side......so i wait on hold for 10 minutes...."oh we cant help you, your'e a FIOS customer"......no **** sherlock

so finally i'm told "we can send a tech out on saturday, the 27th"

so i lose a vacation day at work because of their general crappiness

Wow, jk. I have not experienced that. My wife has called them a couple of times, once to install the battery that they forgot to install and once to add a box for my dad's TV (so I guess we have used their customer service now that I think about it). Both times the call was answered relatively quickly, the dude showed up in the time block and he handled everything. I have found the tech people that show up with the truck rolls to be very knowledgeable. The contractors that installed the service were not very good, but the Verizon folks were fine.

My wifes phone died, so I replaced it with an ebay phone until we were up for renewal at Cingular. It was a GAIT system phone so that limited the options.

I have Directv and have ever since I was stuck with Multimedia Cablevision in The Village. We have Time Warner Cable here, there is no way I would get something that has Bevo On-Demand and a dedicated Longhorn sports channel. I have heard the Georgetown burb is supposed to be getting FIOS.

Verizon is supposed to be pretty good on customer service as a company. It sounds like your account got caught in neverland. I would push them to see if you can get something for your trouble. Maybe six months of HD box rental at the non-HD rental price. It isn't as much value as a day off, but it's something.

Jk, I was going to order FIOS last summer. However, I am not authorized to make changes on our account. The one I set up in 1989. That I pay the bills on. That they won't let me be added as a person authorized to make changes.

I will stick with the crappy TW (who changed their line-up without warning last week) until Verizon will take the order from me. Or until we move, which may come first.

normally you slide out the battery and you'll see a very small card there approximately 2 cm x 3 cm one side will have the provider logo, and the other will have a gold chip on it

That is what I was thinking, but if you slide the battery off of this phone there is no card on the handset - thus my reasoning behind thinking the card could be in the battery pack. I'm not really sure on that though. Either way, if/when I get this phone (bid is still at $5 - and it comes with a leather case that I'll never use) I can have everything transferred from my old phone if I need to.

Osce0la
1/17/2007, 11:00 AM
Ugh, here is one answer I found while trying to search about this:

Another downside of this phone is that, being a CDMA phone - your data is stored locally to the phone and not on a sim card. So if you switch phones for any reason - you can't take it with you (unless you offloaded your addressbook and data to your PC with a data cable *SEE "EXTRAS" BELOW*).
I would think Verizon would be able to hook the phone up to one of their computers and do this for me though...

Osce0la
1/17/2007, 12:27 PM
Ok, well, I called a local Verizon store and they informed me that Verizon does not even use sim cards, and that everything is stored on the motherboard on the cell phone. If/when I get this new phone, I can go online and activate it to have my number switched over to the new phone, but I will have to take it to a store to have everything switched over...

1stTimeCaller
1/17/2007, 03:06 PM

My max bid right now is $10, but it looks as though I am going to get it for $5. The woman at Verizon said I can go to their website to have the phone activated and have my number switched to the new phone. Only problem with that is that it has been a year since I logged on to that site, so I can't remember my password. Guess what happens when you try to reset your password on Verizon's site - it sends you a TEXT MESSAGE with your temporary password...Now how in the **** am I supposed to get my temporary password when the whole reason I am getting a new phone is that my current phone's main screen went completely black...

My phone here is like that. There's a slot, but no SIM card. I'm not sure what network they're on here, but I know it's not GSM because my cingular phone won't work.
