blockbuster online doesn't have fearless freaks.

Seriously, I like The Band, but the list of guests on The Last Waltz is ridiculous, ridonculous even:
Neil Young
Bob Dylan
Dr. John
Emmylou Harris
VanMorrison
Neil Diamond
plus more.

Someone was talking about a girl named "Bess" from Lake Charles, Louisiana the other day. Put a smile on my face. I didn't risk quoting lyrics, though, it's a little obscure.

Monterrey Pop is much better than Woodstock, IMO. Otis Redding is awesome. and Hendrix's performance it the famous guitar and lighter fluid one.

that's ironic. i'd never heard much about festival express until yesterday when i found out that pedal steel legend Sneaky Pete of the Flying Burrito Bros. died. and while looking through youtube for some burritos stuff.....i found a FBB performance (after Gram Parsons) that was pretty tight....from (you guessed it) Festival Express! i'll have to check it out sometime. the Last Waltz is great....I remember my folks going to see it in the theatre when i was young. Music from Big Pink, the brown self-titled LP, and Basement Tapes with Dylan are all pretty outstanding....with Pink being my personal fave.

sooneron's mention of Kids Are Alright is a damned fine choice too.

Last Waltz is outstanding. I wish there would've been more Levon Helm in it though. Robertson and Scorcese were buddies (roomates at the time of the film), and Robertson was pretty much the leader of The Band, but Levon needed to be featured a bit more. Just my opinion.

Van Morrsion's Carvan is probably my favorite performance in the whole deal.

Hatfield
1/10/2007, 02:44 PM
if van morrision's caravan is code for the jam session located in the extras then yes you are correct.

william_brasky
1/10/2007, 02:49 PM
Haven't seen the jam session extra. Tell me more.

The regular Caravan performance I'm speaking of is outstanding. His tight attire and how his gut hangs out is outstanding. His kicks are outstanding.

The Last Waltz and Fearless Freaks are fine, but COME ON!

Gimme Shelter is amazing genius stuff and is on the top.

(and Filth and the Fury and Dig! are really good as well)

Oh, and Decline II is the funniest rockumentary ever. That shot of Paul Stanley in bed with all the gals? Sure, Paul, you're no gay. We believe you.

One of the best things about Last Waltz is that it's directed by Scorsese. Also, two time oscar winner John Toll was just a lowly AC on the shoot.
