So about a month or so ago, I bought one of those SLVR phones. I really wanted it so I could have music with me when I work out.

So tonight, I was putting music on it, and I noticed there were some songs that wouldn't transfer. When I looked at its info, it said 'Encoded with: LAME3.92.

Anyone know anything about this? I mean, I know it has something to do with the legality of the way these songs were transfered. None of my purchased music has any frickin lame encoding on it...

lame = Lame Ain't an Mp3 Encoder.

which means its basically an open source mp3 encoder as most people know it (it's actually a lot more, but most people only use it for mp3 encoding). usually works pretty well. It may be that the phone won't accept mp3's that aren't bought through one of their accepted online stores...in other words, if it doesn't have DRM with it. Most likely, that isn't lame's fault.

I don't know enough about these phones to know though.

It accepts OTHER mp3s that have been downloaded. Those all say encoded with Itunes, quicktime, etc etc.

huh. firstly: do the lame mp3's play on your computer. They should.

secondly: are the bit rates and sample rates the same on the lame mp3's as the itunes mp3s? it could be that the phone only likes a certain range of sample and/or bit rates? this is going a bit out on a limb, but why not check it.

oh, one other thing. check and see if the lame mp3's that aren't transferring are encoded with a variable bit rate (or VBR). its possible that this may be the hang up too...could be that lame does VBR in a way that the phone doesn't like?

Im just throwing out guesses here.

I think this is more like the real answer. The ones that transfer dont say anything about VBR, while the ones that wont do say VBR on them.

thats prolly your problem. most likely, I am guessing, that the phone has only a simple mp3 player on it and can only handle constant bit rates (which is dumb)

oh, and if you do some googling, you may be able to find a conversion tool to put those mp3s at a constant bit rate....

usually, I'd look that up too out of curiosity, but its frickin 3 am. I'm going to bed.

good luck.

mine won't play my mp3's that are encoded at 320 kbps, so i could see the VBR being an issue as well

I got a new Motorola Razor and I think it says something about only playing mp3s at like 64 kbps or lower. I haven't even tried to add any music to mine yet. It's only got 12 MB internal memory, so I guess I'll need to buy a new MMC.

most of mine are 160 kpbs

maybe that's what mine can be too. i'll check it out later.

I'm just wondering if it's because of your choice of music.

the fact that you are criticizing anyone for listening to anything is funny, add to it someone wanting to sound black and you have some real comedy ;)

I just got the new Motorola 8Trak phone. It solves all my mp3 problems. It allows me to put an 8 track right into the phone.
