this should be a sticky until Thursday.please.

The USPS is releasing OUr new postage stamp on Thursday. First day of issue covers are available at all OK post offices. They're hand-cancelling them with a special post mark too.

You should get you some. Even if you aren't interested in this sort of thing, you should pick up a few for your descendents who may be.

Oklahoma's centennial stamp will go on sale at 10 a.m. Thursday at the state's 567 post offices.

Designed by an Oklahoma artist, Mike Larsen, the 39-cent stamp commemorating the state's 100th birthday features a colorful sunrise over a winding river. The words "Oklahoma" and "Oh, what a beautiful mornin' " appear at the top of the stamp, along with "1907," the year Oklahoma became a state.

On the first day of sale, all state post offices will offer a pictorial cancellation with their city's name and ZIP code. The postmark also will feature the Oklahoma Centennial logo and the phrase "Centennial Station, First Day of Sale January 11, 2007."

Blake Wade, the executive director of the Oklahoma Centennial Commission, said, "All Oklahomans will want to purchase this stamp so they can share their state pride with friends and family throughout the nation."

Is the artist, Mike Larsen, related to Gary? Because I don't want goofy cows portraying our state on a stamp.

Heh. My dad works for USPS.

Since these are first-day issue, I'm not sure if they will cost more than the normal $0.39 or not. Depending on how much they are, I'm willing to trade some with some other peeps.

Realize this, some of the smaller post offices ( like the one in Ardmore my mom informs me,) only have the stamps and the special cancellation. You have to bring your own envelopes to put the stamp on since they aren't selling any sort of special first-day-of-issue post card dealio to go along with it.

They go on sale at 10:00am today.

Because my Okie peeps, whether we want to admit it or not, to the rest of the planet, that song IS this state and this state is that song. Indivisible. Seriously. Might as well embrace it.

Frankly, I think its attractive. It could have been very cheesy.

I like the morning imagery and symbolism too. As in, we're still a "brand new state," and our potential is unlimited. Unlike older "rust belt" states, which are beyond hope of economic redemption.
